Anyone reloading the 270 WSM??

Just got all the necessary equipment for reloading my new 270 WSM. Anyone got any good load data? Really looking for hunting loads. Something kinda heavy and real fast. Maybe 140 or 150 grain around 3200 fps.

I have reloaded the 270WSM for a few years. One thing is that you do not need to push the limits of the data to get fantastic results. Medium loads are great and very accurate. Heavier loads can be punishing and deliver little practical power downrange. Medium loads shoot well and are quite easy in recoil. Hodgdon powders as on their website. Varget is accurate. The others are good too.

I dote on the .270 Win, and would love to have a new M70 in the WSM version. However, if I wasn't gonna load to a substantial performance improvement on a 130 gr @ 3100+ that the "old" .270 can do in a 22" barrel, (with long life BTW) I think I'd go to a bigger hole in the muzzle! If ya got a racehorse, let it run! :wink: .....JMO

My affinity for the 270WSM comes from the short action, efficient use of powder, recoil (compared to other "mags") and amazing accuracy. I experience increased performance across the board, compared to the venerable classic 270. I guess, for me, the whole package seems great, AND there is a performance bump. The 270 WSM allows loads that are easy on the old body as well as heavier loads for the bigger stuff out there. My "safari" loads (for my hoped for Alaska and Canada trips) are a bit aggressive, but the rest are relatively friendly to the shoulder and the retinas. A bigger hole would be necessary when we go for Griz... The Ruger Compact Mags have some interesting options... Mike

Good luck on your trip amigo! I don't know that a bigger bore is "necessary" for grizz, many have been killed with the 7mm Rem mag up in BC and it has no "practical" advantage over either flavor of .270 because of an increase of .007" in bore IMO...I know my dad & I had no problem dispatching some large moose with his when we lived there. It sounds as if the great accuracy of the .277" bore hasn't suffered in the WSM version :wink: I'd love to play with one...
