I live in suburbia, have for many years. My parents were big gardeners, but really all I've grown are tomatoes. This year I got a little more energetic and planted some seeds. Carrots, beets, radishes, and some flowers - zinnias and bachelor buttons. I know you are supposed to make little furrows and plant the seeds in them and then cover them, but I had a knee replaced last spring, and cannot get down on the ground anymore. Plus, I was seriously shelled out after tilling the area and raking it all smooth. I just tore the end off the seed packages and sort of "scattered" the seeds in the area set up for them. I did manage to do the radishes the right way, but a week later. Now I have lots of plants coming up in the areas I "scattered" seeds, but have no idea which ones are beets and which are weeds.

Gonna be some fun trying to turn this into a real "garden". 😎

I try to put in easy stuff. Tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, watermelon and such. I loose a lot to critters but still have more than I need. There’s an organization that will pick up the excess a distribute it to those in need.

With the rainfall we've had the last two weeks and the high temperatures, everything is growing like weeds, especially the weeds. I have some pumpkin vines that have grown so much a good fairy must have touched them. Mushrooms are sprouting, too. I just hope the stinkhorns don't show up again.

Have a garden every year I enjoy growing food and love the FRESH produce!
Corn is one of my favorites! Stuff is coming up and looking good! ps

Tomatoes out of control!! : )

My wife passed away in 2008. I try to maintain the plants that we have grown since we moved onto our property in 1988. They consist of four bushes of mini-roses and in the back yard, a large rose bush. There are three medium size rose bushes on the side yard and two-2 year old small plants of lavender which I planted myself. Surprisingly there is a tiger lilly which was planted last fall, disappeared over the mild winter and came back this spring, but no blossoms yet. They all require different amounts of water and luckily since most of them are near the front lawn, I usually water them when I water the lawn. I never water the large back rose bush where it seems all the goat heads grow, because my neighbor in back has a large fruit/vegetable garden in her back yard and she waters more than enough so my large rose bush blossoms every year. I went to a nursery to find out what to get for the goatshead and foxtails that grow in most of the backyard which is rarely used. They wanted $70 for a can of weed killer for the goatsheads. Anyone have any ideas for that problem?

My wife plants tomato plants every year.
Get more tomatoes than we can use.
I think next year I will put in some raised bed gardens.
When we first moved here we planted a full garden every year but work and life didn't leave time to properly tend to it, so we cut wat back.
Considering the current inflationary economic situation, I think next year home gardens may become a necessity for many Americans.
