A friend of my has one in the 9mm. I have not shot it, but I have handled it, and it feels good in my hand. My friend said as long as you use fmj bullets it will shoot all day and night. If you try other kinds of rounds it can get gummed up and misfire.
Having said all that; I would save my money and get a ruger p series pistol. The reliability factor of the p series is huge. I am much more inclined to depend on the p series for home / self defense, than I would be with the Hi Point.

A good friend has one in 45ACP, I've shot it a couple of times, it's reliable, although it feels like you're holding a brick and the trigger is AWFUL, I'd guess 20#. That being said, if you maintain a good sight picture and can put a good squeeze on it, the accuracy a really pretty good, 2 to 3 inches at 25 ft.

My C9 has been very reliable right out the box. My Ruger, which cost twice as much, has given me some problems. The slide keeps staying open with rounds still in the magazine. Have to do some filing to it. Didn't have to do anything to the Hi-Point.

Hi-Point = Ugly BUT reliable.

Yes mind is ugly but very reliable. Needs very little care. They are what they are. A inexpense pistol for shooting. Don't have to worry if you scatch the High Point. Put the High Point in the truck and if it gets thrown around no big deal.

At less than $200.00 its not much of a loss. Most people spend over $200.00 at a casino in one hour. Nothing to lose.

My take,

I just bought my Hi-Point .40 about a month ago. I did have some ftf's, but I found out that it was the mag not being adjusted properly. I have since corrected the issue and as a home defense gun I keep it loaded with Hornady hollow points (don't remember the style, they are cheaper than the critical defense), I love it and today I decided to see how well I could do with it. I hit a 12"x20" cardboard piece at about 55-60 feet with three out of five rounds, up closer (10 feet or so) I can put 11 holes center of mass in about eight seconds...

Also, as for their warranty, the first day I had it I field stripped it and ended up losing the sear spring and the recoil spring end. I called Hi-Point and they sent me all the parts I needed free of charge the same day (got them two days later). I was impressed.

AND!!! They give you a cool little ghost ring sight to play around with if you so choose. I kind of like it, most people don't though.

(Edited for clarification and final point about ghost ring sight)

I love my compact 9! I have wiped it down a couple times in 5 years, but have never cleaned it(sorry but that's why I spent the big buck$ on it in the first place) and it has never failed. It shoots very well. I carry it a lot(not concealed). Bulky blocky heavy but it's like the ugly child that you end up loving more.

Made in America.
Lifetime warranty.
Low price.
And a cardboard box!!!

Get the C9 though.
10 shot mag available.

My holster is a VEGA n150.

You can always spend more later.

I hate the fact that I can not think of buying one because they are just to ugly.

My nephew has 2 of them and when he goes to the range with me they always work. He never leaves without a giant smile on his face and he always wants to go do it again. How can you not like that?

Well, there is one in every crowd, and I will be "it"..Even being on a fixed income (retired), I would give up a meal a day to save a few more bucks rather than go so low as to get a Hi-Point anything...There, I've been revealed, I am a closet "gun snob". As low as I will go is Bersa and Kel-tec.

I bought a used Hi Point C9 years ago from a friend for 40 bucks.I shot about 100rds. through it with no problems. But it was just to heavy and as someone stated earlier a PITA to field strip for cleaning.I sold it to another friend who still has it and keeps it in dash of his work truck. My dad used to call Hi Points Boat Anchors.

Interesting thing about High Point. They use a very distinct rifling and they take a file to the breach face on every gun. Makes it easier for the crime lab guys to identify bullets, cases etc that came from a specific gun.

Yep.
Snobs.
As if Ruger is a high-end prize.
My boat anchor will still work after haulin' it on-board my Go-Devil.

Dude, buy a Hi-Point.
Then buy a Ruger. Or don't buy the Ruger. I hate pretentiousness.

A buddy of mine has a 45 and a 9. Loves 'em. They're heavy, but reasonably accurate, can't beat the price.

Just for the record, I don't think that anybody who shoots a Glock, or even likes 'em, should be throwing stones about ugly guns! Especially at less than 1/2 the price!

Just my .02.

I had the 995 classic carbine and traded it for a 22 marlin. I liked it but did not have much use for it. The 22 is much more affordable. I also had the .40 and had no problems with it but sold it in order to get the 9mm for cheaper shooting. The 9mm had problems with jamming and I sent it in and used there wonderful customer service. I got it back with a free magazine for my trouble. I still had problems with it jamming once in awhile. I sold it to get my Ruger P95 and I love it. I am a member of the Hi Point forums and it seems that the 9mm have a lot of problems with jamming. There is a lot of fixes for this and most get them working good but I don't want to have to get a gun working. I want it to work out of the box.
