Ruger P Series pistols. How good are/were they?

Help Support Ruger Forum:

As far as the P95 goes for changing out grip area/mods for home projects; I am thinking about trying a stippling job on a P95 and see how it works out.

The big thing is practicing first to get the stippling technique down, then going at it.

I also know that correct grip is the best way....I have seen a guy pour more types of lube all over his gun, fire it correctly, and do this again with a different lube, repeat......hand strength is where the best part of this is at. Stippling is a crutch, but may be needed with reduced strength/medical problems....changes may be necessary to keep your tools functional for you.

Well it's your gun, and if you want to try to tackle some project like that, God Bless You, BUT, the amount of work involved to try this on a P95, to me doesn't seem the way to go.....If your P95 looks as good, right now as is, as your P89 you showed, that means you take care of your guns. Why mess up, to me anyway, a gun that was made and designed to do what it does now ?? Unless you have an old P95 that was run over a few times by a heavy farm tractor or run over by something on a gravel pit and looks terrible ?? Other than that, it really doesn't seem worth the trouble. Just my opinion.....Good luck. 🙂👍

I've had my P94DC 40S&W for way better than 25 years and I've never had one issue with it, and I've fed it some "lesser" quality rounds most of the time actually. Just keep it cleaned and oiled up properly. IMO, though, probably the P series isn't the best for CC. But, it's a darn good nightstand or truck gun.

FWIW, I was just out at the range a few days ago, to try out a new 'recipe' for 9mm reloads. I brought along a Beretta PX4, which often does very well with my reloads (plus, the chrome-lined barrel is easy to clean ;^), and a PSA Dagger (pseudo-Glock 19). Because it's been quite a while since I shot it, I also brought my Ruger P91DC with the P89DC top half installed on it. Surprised me, but the Ruger was the best of the 3 with those reloads (tightest groups, right at point of aim)! I'm planning to load another 800 rounds, so I'll probably be shooting that P-series gun a lot more often!
:)

That does not surprise me at all. As I stated before but worth repeating, I like to shoot my Browning Hi Power, my Sig P225, a Glock 19, and a P89, and my P95. I shoot all of them well, but the Rugers ALWAYS do just a little bit better.........every time !!!! 🙂
