Anyone have a single six hunter edition??

I would also like to hear about them. I have a ruger mkIII that I love, but here in PA I can't use a semi for hunting, and I would really like handgun for squirrels and the occasional groundhog. That single six hunter is pretty and seems like it would be perfect for my needs.

I have several. They are still made in a 22/22mag convertable and in the past they were made in 17HMR/17Mach2 convertable and 17HMR. The 17 Convertable model is very rare and brings prices that represent it's rarity but the 17HMR is still affordable when you can find one.
These are relatively heavy for single sixes but they are also quite accurate and I use my 22lr Single Six on small game and it is certainly more accurate then I am. The 17HMR single six is a favorite of mine in the summer for picking off groundhogs as the weight and scope are a good trainer for shooting my bigger 45 Colt bisley hunter in the fall for deer (not that I have got the chance yet).

I was thinking the single six hunter because, well, its twins with my SBHH. I was also thinking it would be a good gun to send off to have a bunch of engraving done on. Not to be a closet queen, but still a shooter.
I have shot my neighbors standard single six with both 22LR and Mag. I really like the magnum option.
It would also be a good gun for my son to learn on. Without the recoil of my .44 mag. :wink: He didnt care for the .44 mag recoil. (he's 9 1/2 but the size of most 13 yr olds). He has no issues with my .45 ACP but its still a little snappy for extensive shooting for him and obviouslyalot more $$ to shoot 100 rds at a time than 22LR.
He's a great shot with a long gun or hand gun and I want to get something we both can go out and enjoy.

Engraving? It makes me shudder just to think of it. Maybe you should Magnaport it and have it gold plated while your at it. :shock: Then you could get you a velour holster with some dingo balls hanging from it.

As for the SS Hunter, they friggin rock. Mine averages < 3/4" at 20 yrds, 1 1/2" at 50 yds (5 shot groups) and 2.29" 3 shot groups at 100 yards. I have a 4 power Leupold on mine. It is one of my favorite handguns.

The good
Have only used the 22lr cylinder so far, but accuracy seems to be plenty good enough for hunting/plinking. It is well balanced and functions well.
The bad
Trigger pull is heavy and has considerable creep. Some fit and finish issues, such as excessive gap between sides of hammer and frame, and the lower rear radius of the of the hammer isn't flush with the radius of the frame, looks sunken in.
Not sure yet
I intend to use the revolver with fixed sights, and the v-notch rear sight and gold bead front sight is going to take some getting used to. I'm having some difficulty adapting to them.
I'm not sure about the engraving, but, to each his own. I always say, when you pay for it you get to decide what you do with it.

Single-Sixer
Love mine. Got a Burris 2-6x on it, and it does sub 3/4" cylinder groups at 25yds - both the LR and mag cylinders shoot well. I haven't done an exhaustive search for the ammo it likes, but it does just fine with the Remington 333 cheapo stuff. It did not care for the Winchester mag ammo, but it seems to shoot equally well with different flavors of CCI mag ammo.
I can't wait to pop a few squirrels with it, and my deer stand is perfectly situated in front of an oak grove over run by tasty tree rats.

You are going to love the Hunter. And yes a trigger job is manditory on any Ruger single action (and probably any DA too).
