I missed the "concerns" box.
However,, I can address a few things,,, coming directly from the folks at Ruger last week at SHOT.
Quality Control.
With them building 2 million,,, yes,,, that's 2,000,000 guns last year,,, that's a lot of guns. Returns,,, (guns returned for QC or service) accounted for .4%. So, out of 2 million,, that's 8,000 returns. Now,,, they can NOT count any guns that somebody kept,,, with an issue,,, that wasn't returned for them to fix. Plus,,, that number is lower than what it was 20 years ago,, according to their records.
Some models experience a much higher return than others. An example I was given was the American Rifle. Very, very low return rate. ALMOST unrecordable. Other models,,, higher returns.
One issue that we have seen was the SA line,,, with the grip to frame fit. It has taken them a bit of time to finally figure out that the problem was 2 fold. First,,,, they THOUGHT the grip manufacturers had issues & when they were working on it,,, they sent drawings to them. The grip makers made grips to the drawings. But problems still occurred. Then they found that the grip frame drawings were incorrect,,,, and so they had to step back & re-do BOTH drawings. We will be seeing better grip to frame fitting now.
Next,,, add in the fact they have a new plant,,, with new employees, who have a learning curve who may not be as serious gun people as we THINK they should be. Add in the newer machinery that can only do what it is programed to do,, and mistakes can be made.
But they are working hard on reducing,,, even further,,, the return rate on all models.
And Wayno,,, on the "Ask the CEO" link,,, I personally spoke with Mr. Fifer a few years ago about this feature. His words to me were; "I read them all,,, each & every one,,,, BUT,,, I can NOT reply to all of them. I do reply to a FEW,,, but I also pass along a lot of the serious ones to the right people to address specific issues." So,,, to expect him to reply to the approximately 150 (more & less depending on the day) daily questions,,,, isn't a feasible thing for him.
