So I love fried chicken on the bone. But to eat fried chicken out is pricey. And not handy. Frying it myself is a real hassle, and with the price of frying chickens, expensive too.
So my question is this. Is there a reasonably good, meaty frozen fried chicken out there that would let my wife and I oven heat a few pieces at a time (we are empty nesters and don't eat large quantities of an entree usually). Google searches on ratings mostly review fried chicken full meal TV dinners.
Maybe i'm just out of luck, but I thought I'd ask friends here. I'm still losing weight (24 pounds so far with 18 pounds to go) and to go to a KFC buffet is potentially inviting overindulgence. Don

Thought you Kentucky folk cornered the market on Kentucky fried chicken with the Colonel Sanders? No I aint never had any good frozen boxed chicken, I know it's a hassle but best and least expensive is buy a whole fryer, cut it up and fry it yourself just freeze what you want to eat later in zip lock bags.

I use to like those frozen Tyson chicken wings I could buy in a big bag till they had all kinds of extra skin hanging on them and lots of fat, so I stopped buying them.

IF you can find it, Banquet Frozen Foods makes a pretty decent frozen fried Chicken; The trick is finding it among all the chicken bits, nuggets, breasts, and other mushed together chicken parts.
I'd Stay AWAY from Tyson.

I got this thing about looking at my chicken as I cut it up for frying so if there is anything nefarious there, I might spot it before putting it in my mouth. Past experience with all things "poultry", lessons learned.

May not be the kind of fried chicken you are looking for but my wife cooks two or three pieces of chicken at the time on the stovetop in a pan. Comes out great. She calls it boasted. Brown the seasoned chicken pieces in a small amount of very hot oil and then turn the heat down and add a little water now and then with the lid on. Comes out moist inside with a nice crust. :D

Thanks everyone. First I'll give Banquet a try when I find a coupon. Then, if it isn't what I hope for, I'll just have to get my tail in gear and plan ahead for the cooking. I just keep wondering where the buffet type restaurants like Ryan's, Golden Corral and the like get their chicken. Maybe they deep fry it fresh?? When my wife and I go to Ryan's (seldom because even the lunch "Mega Bar" takes a chunk out of our very fixed income budget) I wait until I see them dump a fresh pan of fried chicken in the tray and I go to town. Some folks refuse to eat at family buffet restaurants, considering them low budget fare. Well, when times and income take a turn for the worst despite all the planning you do for years, a buffet is just fine for regular folks like my loving wife and me. And I enjoy Ryan's fried chicken. Don

Don't know if you have a Publix there or not but their fried chicken is real good. Some of the best store bought that I've had. It does go on sale every now and then but not by much, 90 cents I think it is. But it's not frozen, just fresh. Just a little caviot here, I don't know if all Publix's are the same so YMMV.

I'll vouch for the Publix fried chicken; I think I prefer it to the KFC trash. Right now I'm on a ZERO carb diet and I'm staying away from the flour coating on the fried chicken , baked only for me.

Fried chicken is bad enough for you on it's own, now start adding all the preservatives and "other" ingredients added to boxed foods and it gets worse. It's your heart.

"Boxed fried chicken." I can imagine that's the kind of food they serve in Hades. I'll fry my chicken, even if it's only every now and then (cholesterol diet).

BTW, after being put on a low cholesterol diet, I have discovered that cholesterol is a really tasty thing. Take it out of food, and you could just as well eat straw. I've caught myself "hee-hawing", no kidding!

Boxed and frozen do not belong in the same sentence as fried.
And, most don't know it but Kentucky Fried Chicken isn't fried.
CG, I. Know whatcha mean about the zero carb diet. Been doing low/zero for a few months now. I hate light beer...

I thought the low carb diet had faded out a while back.
The science behind it is that when you severely restrict or cut carbs out altogether you tend to lose a fair amount of weight quickly. Unfortunately it's not true body weight in the sense that most people think. You simply dehydrate yourself. You need to be very careful about hydration status and understand you really aren't losing weight at the rate it seems on the scale.

The best combo is calorie restriction, increasing exercise, and dietary changes to improve nutrition and the quality of food intake.

Sorry Chief Muzz,
But I have read Dr Atkins and I also read a lot of the research that was done by various universities. The Initial weight loss can be a lot of water, HOWEVER if you stay hydrated and Keep checking your urine with KETOSTIX, You soon find that you have kicked over into KETOSIS which indicates that your body is UTILIZING Body Fat for to replace the CARBOHYDATES you use to consume. The weight you do lose is INDEED body fat and yes, eventually the weight you "appear" to be losing is actually being lost. Been there and done it before. As far as the Low-Carb diet having faded out; SORRY, but there is a Passel of them out therecall variations of Dr Atkins. The problem with the "low calorie" diet is that you are ALWAYS hungry and eventually WILL go back to eating the wrong things; That's why long term those "diets" do not work.
Of course we BOTH know that the biggest joke was the so-called "Low-Fat" diets where they took out Fats and replaced them with SUGARS.
Oh yeah, with Atkins, you DO gradually add back carbohydrates, but keep it at a point whee you are very slightly ketosis meaning that your body preferentially burns body fat; if you over indulge now and then (birthday party cake, ice cream etc, You cut the Carbs for several days until your body once again goes for body fat. Yeah, it's a life time, life style type of diet.

Ketosis means little if you don't calorie restrict. Without a negative caloric balance you won't lost weight. It is easier to lose weight long term when you calorie restrict and exercise. Someone who exercises frequently can tell you exercise in a chronic ketosis state is akin to running underwater. You won't get far without proper energy stores.
I'm sorry but I find little good with any "diet". Health is too multifaceted to isolate just one variable and think it will fix the issues.
