What's your thoughts about the early KP91D's?

RENE says this one locally is 2nd year of production (1993) and that they were quickly discontinued in favor of the P94.

I'm much more of a revolver guy but really like the De-Cock versions ~ already have the 90 and 95 in De-Cock.

Will the same magazines work in the 91, 94 and 944?

Are the 91's any more rare, scarce of valuable than the other P-Series 40 cal's? Other thoughts or comments?

The P91-DC is quite uncommon, the one i bought last year is only one i have ever seen, it was made in 92 and i got it like new in box with both 11 round mags for $325.00 + tax. The P94 is a 9mm and takes different mag, but P91 and P944 both are .40 S&W and will use the same 10 and 11 round mags. My P91 and P944 have both been 100% reliable and are equally accurate, the only difference is the 944 has full length frame and 91 looks like P89. The P91 and early P944 pistols have a different action than the late P944 has, but they all seem well built and equally reliable.

Thanks cjs1945 ~

Since I posted this I read more in RENE and it shows the P91 was only made in 92, 93 and 94. So, scarce must be right!

I bought this one yesterday for $325.00 with the original box and 3 genuine Ruger mags. I'm not crazy in love with 40 cal but this stainless de-cocker is a perfect match to my KP90DC. And .... it doesn't seem like very many hit the streets.

hittman, you got a good deal too, the early 11 round mags had a plain medal base plate and the later ones had a plastic base plate with Ruger emblem on it. In 94 the Clinton assault weapon ban forced Ruger to reduce the mag capacity to 10 rounds, those mags have a crease running from end to end on both sides reducing the capacity by one round as opposed to the smooth sides on 11 round mags.

Just took it apart for a cleaning. Supposedly this was sold to the local shop by the original owner who bought it new in 1993. It is clean as a whistle but dry as a bone. Everything was a little hard to work but all is well now.

Anyone know when or why they put a lanyard on this one?
All models have them certain years?

Neither my KP90DC or P95DC have a lanyard.

All the early guns had them. It goes back to the original p85 design in which the military wanted the loop. Not sure what year they stopped. Neither of my p90s or my late model p89 have it but both of my early p89s did.

I just got my P91 yesterday . . . really nice gun. Super tight with no rattles. My only concern is that the rear sight has been moved all the way to the right hand side. I hope this isn't a sign of an accuracy issue. Most p series have the sight almost dead center.

Other than that a really nice gun. I just can't figure out why the quality control was so high on the p90s and P91s but so low on the P89s. This will always bother me.

The site issue could be a right handed shooter who is left eye dominant or .... inexperienced shooter .... just got bumped and moved, etc. Even if there is an issue, it's likely Ruger will fix it pronto.

Put 50 rds through the new P91 today . . . very suprised how easy this is to shoot and how light the recoil. I fired full metal jackets and winchester silver tips. The winchesters were very accurate. This is a very nice gun.
