New PCM has been ordered under warranty for my 2019 High Country. Took it in for service on the radio and climate system and it came out with ZERO miles on the odometer. Needless to say, the tech and service manager didnt even know they could do that. LOL.

And …… the battery tested bad so it was replaced. This was the THIRD battery in 22 MONTHS.

I have NO complaints with the folks at the dealership …. They’re very apologetic and seem to be doing everything they can.

In a perfect world the new PCM will restore the mileage and show why it eats a battery twice a year. If that does not happen ….. what would you do? Ask about the lemon laws? Trade it?

It wasn’t rolled back ….. technology ate it.

It sure as heck wasn’t intentional.

I checked Consumer Reports....the 2019 Silverado has several recalls on it right now and gets poor scores for reliability, especially concerning electronics. Given that, plus my own now dated experience with Chevrolet trucks, I might consider making it go away were it mine.
I don't think I would keep it out of warranty.

I will talk to a buddy that’s a GM tech tonight…our stuff is all different, some have to be ordered with the VIN and mileage, some come with no information in them at all, they all have to be configured and have the key PIN put into the ECM. I’ve seen bad new stuff but never a mileage issue.

I think you bought Christine's offspring. That car was flying down the road with the odometer going backwards LOL

Thanks.

They replaced a sensor that fixed the “climate off” message. But today that message is back so ….. sensor wasn’t the problem.

Also today, “Tailgate Open” message even though it is not.
Radio stays on several minutes after vehicles is off.
Shows me as “Driver 2” even though only the driver 1 fob is with me.

I may need to look onto what the “lemon” laws, rules or procedures are all about.

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but you wouldn't happen to have AllState DriveWise Insurance which uses the little plug-in module, would you?

Just thought I'd ask. We had DriveWise insurance which required a little module to be installed in the car. It caused the battery to totally drain twice, and it caused numerous messages and false codes to be generated. Also, the radio would stay on after the car was turned off. Lots of weird stuff, and we finally just unplugged it.

Here’s the response from my buddy…

PCM doesn’t have any odometer functions. The odometer is controlled by the BCM. The dealership has no capability to change odometer reading. The ONLY possibility is that whatever the vehicle was there for, someone tried to replace the BCM. That’s the only way a dealership can affect the odometer reading of a 2019 Silverado. My guess is something went wrong while attempting to program the new BCM to the vehicle. Most of the time the problem is trying to program over WIFI or not having the battery properly equipped with the correct tender to keep the battery voltage above 12v. I would bet the latter since he mentions having battery drain issues.

…along with a bulletin from GM…

Oh thank you very much.

Maybe there IS hope that it can be fixed. Time will tell.

Yeah, I’ve had the slow engine crank too so 3 of those 5 examples apply.

I’ve about lost confidence in this vehicle. It’d be nice to get a “win”.

Thanks again; I appreciate your efforts and info.

My 2015 Silverado will display, trailer connected, check wiring!, ding, ding, ,ding! I think I would know if I had connected a trailer! No trailer connected! Overloadde

Monday morning early I delivered the truck to my local Chevy store as the parts are in.

Today ( 3 1/2 days later ) they’re delivering it back to me and say its fixed. I don’t have it yet or the paperwork to indicate what work was completed. No complaints about the time to fix it ….. I told them to keep it as long as needed.

So …. I’ll drive it and we’ll see what happens. I may ask them to extend the bumper-to-bumper warranty a year at no charge. Don’t really WANT to get rid of it but admit I’ve lost confidence in it.

Thanks again for all the input.

That will be up to GM. They won't do it without a big fight and fear of having to take it back under the lemon law. Then they probably won't honor it when you need it.
I have totally given up on GM just because of their thief dealers trying to charge for warranty work on our Volt.
Filed a complaint and the state found they had billed me for the work and also submitted the warranty charge to Chevrolet - double dipping.
The main battery pack also needed replacing with 110,000 on the car (was down to 80%). CA requires GM to warranty the PZEV cars to be 100% for 10 years 150,000 miles not GMs 8/100,000. The state would do nothing about it unless I paid the $6,000 the dealer wanted to change the battery. Then I could file another complaint and they would "try" to get my money back.
I was looking at buying a new $70,000+ Tahoe (had an 03) and getting rid of our 300,000 mile Ford Excursion. We're keeping the Excursion. Got a fresh overhauled long block last week and all the new hoses, watr pump, idlers, belt, etc this week. Trans and transfer case were already done so it'll be a 100% reliable vacation tow car again.
I am enjoying my Lincoln MKc Volt replacement. Anybody want to buy a Commercial Level 2 charger for $500? https://store.clippercreek.com/level2/level2-20-to-32/cs-40-32-amp-ev-charging-station

How many miles were on it? It sounds like you just got a ‘free’ warranty extension.

They delivered my truck this afternoon. Looks like they ran it through the detail shop too.

Mileage is restored, took it for a short drive and everything works for now. Paperwork with list of service performed will be along shortly. Service writer joked that is may come in “book form” …. Says it was pretty extensive.

Ok, so in the big picture all of this commotion is supposed to produce a better product with less pollution ??? No, I am not convinced. Give me a plain old electronic ignition, simple fuel injection vehicle. Simple to understand and work on not needing a Phd in Mechanics or Computer Science that a reasonable astute person can work on. IN no way can I really believe we are better off and at the very least exceptionally financially crippled by the vehicles currently produced. They are way way too complicated.

And think of all the additional pollution it takes to create these things, computers, sophisticated sensors, batterys, wire, modules, plastics of all kinds, engineering for all the electronics and programming.

Dont forget about what to do with all of the discarded electronics when scraping or even worse all of these huge batteries that apparently can not be effectively recycled -yet- (one day maybe) besides all the pollution to mine and produce the materials to make them.

So my 1980's truck that gets 15-16 mpg and my 1999 SUV that gets 17 -18 mpg (both have basic old school mechanicals, the 99 has basic OBD)is worse of an offender than my 2017 Ford F250 that gets 14 mpg and has every wiz bang electronic in it that you can imagine

Ahhhh, yea , no I am not convinced.

I'm thinking that almost everyone that votes our politicians into office (over and over) are probably people who don't own vehicles... !!!
I'm going to try and finish my final 20+ years (hopefully) with a 2009 and 2016 (no tech) Jap cars.

Well …. The “fix” lasted from Thursday afternoon to Sunday morning.

Same problems again this morning.

Wish the Ram store had a good selection.

Yeah, my 2012 F150 had rusted through cab corners and sill plates in 5 years. Truck had less than 60k miles on it.

ALL brands have their problems.

All brands have some issues that are common. GM has been a nightmare electronics wise since the mid 2000s. Which can be one the biggest PITAs to track down. Glad it worked out for.

I see all sorts of GM products with all that rust; Mainly from the Northern "SNOW" states where they salt the roads.

My 2015 Silverado, still today said,"check trailer connection", even though there was no trailer
Connected! Overloadded

This isn’t about a trailer, it’s about the trailer wiring connection. It can be due to water or corrosion in the connector. There is a connector near the spare tire (often above it). It you take it apart, hose it down with electrical parts cleaner, and use some dielectric grease on the contacts it often fixes the problem. Same goes for the connection at the bumper.
