Ruger only lists two rimfire pistols now, the MK IV and the LCPII, no more Chargers or SR-22s... interesting times for the company.

Regarding the Charger, Ruger is peddling SBR's that are basically Chargers with a folding stock. Not something I am interested in, but if they peddled one with a folding pistol brace they might get some of my money.

It also appears that a MK pistol with double stack mag is on the horizon.

I bought a Taurus TX-22 rather than the SR-22, mostly because of the price, but also some features. There is a lot of competition in that area and I think the Ruger may have been priced out of the market share 🤷‍♂️

I had a SR-22 and didn't care for it at all. It was replaced with a S&W M&P .22 Compact, which I absolutely love!
And as s4s4u mentioned above, the TX22 is THE .22 pistol currently on the market to have. I own two, and they're simply fantastic pistols. 😉👍

Well, apparently nobody was buying them so what's the loss? Maybe they'll make some new ones that people actually want.
They would have bought them if they would have made them.
Demand has a lot to do with people see at the gun shop, or on a gun show table. If they aren't seen, you can't hardly have any demand.
Maybe Ruger is arrogant with the thought that all people had to do was look at their website? The problem is, when people shop they would rather have something in hand to examine before they shuck out $300 to $700 or more.
I.M.H.O., they spent way to much time building lower end stuff. And quarter after quarter for the last 4-5 years it was always the same at their shareholders meetings... GP is down.

Chet15.
Nailed it.

Ruger has become a “straight to GunBroker” manufacturer.
Whoever designed the model / method of getting product to retail stores has bankrupted lots of medium and small size mom-and-pop locally owned retailers.

My theory is a little different. One of the main firearm distributors filed for bankruptcy recently. It's quite likely that Ruger had to move inventory to their other distributors and created a glut. So Ruger probably stopped production on all but their most popular and fastest selling models.

Once the glut has been depleted, production will ramp up again with a mix of new models and better selling older models.

That's my guess anyway.

I think if people were asking in gun shops for SR22s and Chargers, the owners would have some on hand, which in turn would cause Ruger to make them. Ruger doesn't make guns just so they can hide them and make them hard to get.

I know for a fact that I could get new and used SR22s at several places today. The new ones are way more than I would pay if I happened to want one.

I have seen Chargers with bipods sit on countertops for months at a time with no takers. I'm guessing a lot of people can't think of what they would do with one. I can't either.

I paid $175 for a used SR22 last year at a LGS. It only had 1 grip set or cover, and it was very loose-fitting. I called Ruger customer service and they shipped me a set for ~$25. It IS a little disappointing that they didn’t design it as a double-stack though. It’s a fun little plinker.

I too thought the take down in 22 was goofy. The answer to a question nobody had asked.

But ….. then I got a good deal on the 9mm Glock mag PC Carbine. Next thing you know, I got a 10/22 takedown bag it fit nicely in along with a G19 and ammo. I think 9mm a better bug out option than 22.

The idea of a takedown 10/22 was a lot neater than the actual rifle for me. I never use mine. I probably would if I had bought a threaded barrel version. But even then, I'd probably never take it down.
Suppressed 22LRs for plinking in the woods are great because I don't need hearing protection.

The take down feature is great for cleaning, pretty much the only reason I use it.

And I recently sold my SUB2K because all it did was sit under the back seat of my truck. Never shot it once in the years I owned it. It was more convenient than a take down as it folded in half. And the 10/22s are bored through now so it doesn't help cleaning either.
