What do you guys store your ammo in while it is at home? And what do you use when you go to the range to carry it in? Typically I just use the boxes they came in but it sucks carrying 5 or 6, 50 rnd boxes in your hands every time. Just trying to get some ideas.

Thanks!

I use a backpack. It also carries my ear protection, towels, targets and other misc. stuff that I need, or think that I might need.

At home I keep my ammo in a mechanics tool chest with sliding drawers and when going to the range I pack a range bag with ammo, eye and ear protection, towel, tools, binoculars and targets. 8) 8)

You need to look into getting some type of range bag. As noted, some use a backpack. Others buy a designed range bag.
Since you mentioned you are looking mostly at ammo, I'll throw this out. If you can find a Harbor Freight store nearby, they have some "tool bags" that are different sizes, and work quite well for ammo. Get their sales flyers & watch for them to go on sale & they get cheap quickly. I use different sizes for different things. I have one just for instructional materials for our WOT clinics, (small stuff,) others for putting smaller boxes of ammo in, (100 round count or 50 round count boxes of centerfire ammo,) or a single bag with nothing but 22 LR ammo, etc. At around $4-$5 a bag, it's easy to get several for specific uses.
I have a seperate range bag that carries all my other stuff besides my ammo.
Now, I also have the Dillon "Border shift" bags. I reload, so I have a bulk quantity of ammo. The border shift is an excellent range ammo bag too.

Going to the range, I use range bags. If testing, I carry two as one has the chrono stuff in it. In the other bag, a few boxes (plastic boxes of 100) of ammo, a couple guns, targets, stapler, tape, and good to go!

At home ammo is just stored in wood cabinets.

Range Bag for hand guns, ammo, mags, hearing protection, eye protection misc tools and whatever else I may need. 1 bag does it all, and I just have a "compact" range bag.

Military ammo cans. Store 90% of my ammo at home in them......just grab one or two, or more, on the way to the range. Store my muffs, tools, rest, rear bags, spotting scope, targets and staple gun in a very large 40mm can.
Works great, Coogs.

I got a big steel plate cabinet that I lock it up in. But when I go to the range I put the ammo boxes in a tool box, which I then strap on to a collapsable luggage trolly with all my other stuff with bungee cords and of I go, makes it very easy.

I keem my ammo in ammo boxes. That way the brass is all together for reloading. To take stuff to the range, a tool bag I bought at the home center. Big enough for all my stuff, made of heavy nylon with several handy pockets inside and out and the hard bottom keeps the bag in shape. For storage, milsurp ammo cans. I keep the ammo nin them, and the cans are marked with the caliber. That makes it easy to find what I want.

I wish they made large trays to hold specific ammo like 500 rounds or 1000.but I can't seem to find any anywhere

You could make trays out of the 50 pack ammo trays. Just glue them together or make a simple wood frame etc.

Mine is in a safe with a dehumidifier.
I doubt if I have as much as some of you guys but what isn't in my carry gun and the one for the home it is all kept locked away.
To and from the range it is my range bag.

At Home, a Heavy Duty, lockable Filing Cabinet.

Going to the range, a Standard OD Green, GI Ammo Can. Everything else in a Range Bag...........................................

I use plastic boxes and they go into milk crates. Some of my ammo goes in 50Cal GI ammo cans. I park right at my shooting bench so no carrying it. I also take a 5 gallon pail for spent brass picked up.

I buy Ammo Cans at Gun Shows (One for each Caliber) and then put a desicant in with My Ammo.
The Cans stack neatly and the desicant keeps things dry.

i use gi cans for home and coffee cans for bulk reloads @ range
have a range bag for guns and gear and tool bag for rounds

I use a plastic tool box and not take the tray. I picked it up for 5 bucks and it carries everything but the revolver I'm using. hth greg

Surplus ammo cans work the best for me. I use MTM plastic cases for all of my reloaded ammo and those MTM cases fit perfect in the Surplus ammo cans. Not to mention the ammo cans come with a rubber gasket to make the lids water tight. I alwys get the .50 cal amm cans these work the best and you can get quite a few of these MTM ammo cases in there

Also I keep my ammo in the same cans weither I am at the range or at home. Makes for a fast trip to the range when I decide to go
