First let me apologize if this has been asked before.

I recently purchased my .38SP LCR. I am planning on using either the Double Tap .38 SP+P 125g JHP or Hornady Critical Defense .38 SP+P 110g JHP rounds for self defense. What do you all think of these choices?

What would you recommend for self defense and/or practice ammunition?

Again I am sorry if this has already been asked. As I am both new to this forum and to my LCR I hope you will forgive me.

Those are good choices for self defense. Any cheep but good quality 38 special ammo will work for practice. You might want to check the point of impact on both your practice and carry ammo to make sure they are close. :D :D

Welcome to the forum.

Have you considered the Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel .38 load? I'll admit that I've never shot it, but it was designed for snub .38's and reportedly works REAL WELL! Just a thought, most important thing is to practice so that you can put whatever bullet you shoot wherever you want it.

For self defense out of a short barrel, suggest you consider hollowpoint ammo with a fast burning powder, like Speer's excellent 135-gr. Short Barrel Gold Dot load that is bonded for adequate penetration. It has a little less recoil than the FBI load of LWSCHP 158-gr., penetrates about the same and has a lot more expansion.

Regular 38 Special ammo wastes a lot of powder out of short-barreled revolvers. Snubnose handguns can be optimized with faster burning powders designed for short barrels.
