Amazon scam

Bob's oops reminded me of a scam I have received a few times. I have received an email stating that my Amazon account has been temporarily locked and I need to log on to this link to update my information to unlock the account. Needless to say I do NOT click on the link. The sent address looks legit until you REALLY look at it. It comes from some address like "charliesjones123" or some such BS. I just wonder how many are actually pulled in by it?

While I have received a few like that, I reply something like
"How is it that I can log in to an account that is locked?"

I almost fell for one recently. I needed to renew my registration. I carefully entered the web address on the renewal. As opposed to just searching RMV. Click on the one that says “renew your registration”. Entered my plate number, all my info populates. I get to the pay window, and see a $15 fee attached. There is no service fee to renew on line.

I look up at the address bar. I’m not on a state web site.


By entering the address into the google search bar instead of the main bar at the top of my screen. It opened me up to stuff that wasn’t on that address.

My son showed me how it said in the corner of that result “add”. Thing is it’s not an add. It’s a page for a renewal service. I don’t think they are breaking any laws. It’s a service that you can choose to use or not.

The thing is they lure you away from the legit page to trick you into using a service you don’t need.

If people applied their abilities to HONEST work, with the same efforts & study etc as they do building these scam sites & all,,, we'd have a much better society.
Kinda like an old saying I used to hear; "If that man worked as hard at a job as he does being lazy, then he'd truly succeed!"
I often find it funny how much work goes into being criminal, a thug, being lazy, bumming, or otherwise doing things that are not productive for society.
Kinda like street beggars. They will go stand on a street corner, looking homeless, begging for money,, all while MANY of them are actually quite well off & living better than a lot of the people who feel sorry for them & give them money.
Scammers have gotten very creative in how they word stuff, build a website, set up an account to get money sent to, etc.
I too get scam stuff about an account I don't even have, or from a 3rd party that looks legit,, until I truly study things a bit. My favorite one is about my paypal account being locked,, and I don't have a pp account at all, never have either. I get one of those emails about every 2 months.

I received that same email. Seemed kind of fishy, so I did not open it, just tapped the delete button.

Some scams look very real, I would just like to add that for those of you with Apple products that they would NEVER call you or email to report a breech because they would have no idea it happened. When you log into a new device you will need to use the code that gets sent to your trusted device and you will get an email from Apple telling you that a new device was logged in to. If someone from Apple calls me I like to have some fun with them, if they swear at me I consider that a win.

This scam business must be lucrative and apparently employs a lot of people. Daily, I receive multiple attempts on my home phone, our cell phones, and on our e-mail.

I get a couple of those a week.... from someone pretending to be Amazon or my email provider or even pay pal or such.... the thing I do is go up and click on the return email address and it always shows something entirely different.... usually they are not even close to who they say they are....

im on dial up and amazon ordering would never happen! I don't use amazon at all! lol.

Some people will work harder to cheat you out of a buck than making a hundred honest bucks. I think they must
get a thrill out of it.

When I receive uninvited calls, if it is a Lady, ask her bra or cup size! If it is a male, I ask if he is still buying the extra small condoms? These call and rather quickly! Overloadded

If I get something from, for example, Amazon saying there a problem with my account or whatever I never click the link. If you have any doubt what you should do (what I do) is just sign on as you normally would and check for any messages about the "problem". If it's legit there'll be something there indicating that. If it was bogus there won't be anything.

Here in IL, what you refer to is the "official" way to renew your vehicle registration. It is through a website called "cyberdriveillinois.com" which is the official website of the Secretary of State of Illinois, but you would not know that just from the address of the site. There is a fee for renewal on line, but its more like $2 than the $15 you mention. Well worth the small fee to avoid waiting on line each year, for each vehicle just to get the renewed sticker for the license plate. I would be making five visits a year to the state facility and much prefer doing it in a few clicks.

I get these as well :( Another is some bogus email some item is shipped-- never ordered anything. Check my account at Amazon, just to be sure I havent been charged- NOTHING-- Stay Alert folks! :roll: :evil:

I just got off the phone with Amazon. A book I ordered got shipped USPS and got held at the post office. I had to call to get a new tracking number and have it sent out again for re-delivery.

Amazon has been a very easy company for our house to use. No complaints at all.

The scary part is, you can download a “csv” file. Which is sort of like an excel spreadsheet. It shows how much money you’ve spent at Amazon by year or lifetime.
We’ve ordered from them since 2002. Yikes!

I just got another spam E-mail . . . about . . . Amazon. They want you to "review"
their products (sent to you for only the cost of shipping) and supply an HONEST,
five star rating for their product.

I sent a copy to Amazon at their "[email protected]" to let them know
about the scam. The stop-spoofing address is from within the link I previously
posted.

Doncha just love "honest" ratings?
