Amazon Account?

I was able to attend evening service at church last night, for the first time in quite awhile. When I came home, I had four calls recorded on my answering machine. They were from Amazon, requesting I either press "One" or "Two" to either authorize or not a charge of $999 to my Amazon account. And after I got home, I got another five or six calls, within two or three minutes apart.

I have no Arazon account now nor ever have had one. How can I block such calls? This on my landline, which has no way of blocking calls.

If you’re unable to block them on the phone, you’ll need to contact your service provider.

Everybody’s needs are different but for us, we killed the landline years ago. Cell only and I don’t even have voice mail set up on mine. Pretty peaceful.

I got a text on my cell phone last week. Said thanks for the 349 payment on an account I did not have. They listed a phone number to call. I looked up the co. and called the real number. Thieves are out there trying to get your money though mailings, phone calls, text messages, email and I am sure some still do it door to door.

I get texts from "Amazon" about every time I use the real Amazon. They are never opened and are instantly deleted.

I beg to differ, but only a little.

Get yourself an answering machine, shut off the ringer on your phone, and let everything to go
the answering machine. In your message tell everyone that ALL calls are answered by the
machine, and that any calls from someone you want to hear from will be returned in minutes.

Be SURE and get a digital one, so you can delete any messages you do not want, without having
to listen to the entire message (OLD tape types were like that). Most, now, will allow you to cancel
the call before it is complete (effectively hang up on them).

Still not optimal, but a BIG improvement.
The one I used, from Amazon, is the
AT-1740WH-Digital-AnsweSystem at under $16.

Pat tagged it.... my wife an I stopped answering our home phone about 30 years ago.....unless we catch the beep from the answering machine and then feel like checking caller ID.... there is no way we are going to answer an incoming call.

When I'm watching TV the number comes up on the screen. I don't get up unless I know the number. Out of all calls only about 1 in 10 are really for us and it's getting worse. I thinking about doing away with the landline completely. The cell phone is starting to get them to.

If you are careful, you can pull your current number and take it to the cell provider you wish.
I did that when I moved from CO, and it worked flawlessly.

I looked at my cell, and was AMAZED at the number of numbers I have blocked. My guess is
that the cell provider . . may . . provide those attempting to sell, a list of numbers that will
be "non productive". - - - So far this year, (I'm guessing here) I've received no more than
20 that were not mis-dials. (one idiot called back four times before I blocked him)

When I get a non recognized number, I wait a few minutes to see if they leave a message
(in case it IS a call I want). I then block any others.

YMMV.

The problem blocking the cell number is they use random phone number generators that never come up the same twice. I don't know how it works but I know if I try to call one of them back it comes up as a non working number???
The worst is the recorded girl that says she wants me to listen to a sales pitch about final expenses insurance, or the one that says I am missing out on SS or retirement benefits- Just go away.

I have been on it for years, the calls still keep coming , at least 3-5 a day!

I have an Apple phone that allows me to block all unrecognized callers. It stops the ringing so I do not hear it, and immediately sends the call to vm & creates a "list" that i can check any time I feel like it. If its important , they leave a VM, if not, I just clear the list once a day. It has been very helpful. I ran call ctrs. The robo calls are fully automated and have a zillion numbers they just run through the algorithm and keep on dialing. You will never be able to stop them. That is why if your phone gives you the ability to block them before you answer, enable that feature! Remember, it will block any call not on your contacts. So, If you are waiting for a call from some store, vendor, Dr's office, etc it will block them too if they are not in your contacts. But you can go to the List, and call them back.
