A prime membership is not worth $139 yearly to get fast(er) free shipping than I could get in the past by NOT being a member and getting free 5-7 day shipping on orders of $35 or more. Well my 5 day shipping on an order went to 30 days and I cancelled the order and got the three items elsewhere instead.

Amazon had in their favor the reviews buyers could leave. They still have reviews but I can no longer see only one category and now only one page. Reviews are a large part of my decision making and neither the slew of "5" ratings or the perpetually unhappy "1" ratings influence me. Jeez, some give a 5 for just opening the package while others give a "1" because they just did not read the listing to see if the product met their needs and did not.

For sure Amazon has some positive reasons to buy there but once a fundamental issue like shipping time gets spun out of control I'd rather deal with the odd S-L-O-W sellers elsewhere.

Mostly I don't have any issues with prime, I don't like the fact that the price keeps going up and I do have more packages now that don't get to me in 2 days than I used to.
If I get frustrated with it I'll call them and complain and they usually give me some credit that I can use buying books on my kindle.
Also I've learned that there's a certain percentage of reviews that are created by bots. Also as you stated some of the people that leave reviews are just stupid.
Mostly though they are helpful. I try to leave reviews that are helpful, good or bad.

I don't shop enough on Amazon to justify Prime. As said, shipping is free if you buy enough stuff. Prime used to be 2-day, but that is now gone and it takes 3 - 4 days anyway. There is an Amazon warehouse near here so sometimes I can get stuff the next day, non-prime. My daughter uses Amazon as if it were the local market, there are packages with the swoop arriving daily at her place. She has Prime, but also makes use of their music and TV streaming, so the cost is sensible for her.

I can't stand Bozos, so will avoid shopping there unless there is no place else I can get what I need.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change.
We use Amazon. Just for normal stuff. It's much easier than driving all over town looking for a store selling a specific item.

I've found these days its much easier to sort through internet pages looking for say a specific size allen wrench, than driving to Home Depot and standing in the aisle looking for the same size allen wrench. The wrench being an oversimplification of other items I might be looking for.

OK, take for example ultrasonic cleaner fluid. I bought some on Amazon recently. What brick and mortar store sells ultra sonic cleaner fluid? And inside the store, where do I find the store clerk to tell me what aisle it's on? That's a better example than the allen wrench. I can find those.

FYI, Jewlers use sudsy ammonia

I use Amazon a lot. Being OLD, I never PAY for service memberships (except Costco). I have the luxury of time (so far), so waiting is no big deal. It seems that there is nothing that I need "right now"...I 'save' things on my "wish list" that don't add up to the $35 "free shipping" threshold. When I get enough to hit $35, I order. If I have a 'big ticket' item i.e. +$35, I pull something off the wish list and include it for the free shipping. If they want me to join PRIME, they're gonna have to pay ME.
:)

I use it almost every day. Not many stores near me. USPS and UPS are sucking on delivery times as well. We tried using the similar service from Walmart this week and they screwed it up way more than Amazon. About one in every six orders I make on Amazon arrive SAME DAY. Half my orders have a choice of overnight (4-8 AM) or afternoon (12-5) next day. It's all relative.

$139 is less than $12 per month. My Prime is $16.XX and worth every penny (or cent for some). Y'all really stressing over $12 per month? In September I changed my life quitting three vices and save 100 times that per month. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

it's just too dern easy to order.... Kiwi makes this liquid shoe polish that Iike and is easy to apply to my work boots and I can't find it in the drug stores here now... seems they are only selling some off brand crap ... and I just realized I can get what I want from Amazon and don't have to go looking for it.... I swear I think the biggest warehouse on the planet is the Amazon distribution center in Boiling Springs S.C. It makes the Walmart one look like a Waffle House.

There's a Walmart distribution center 15 miles from me but I still get Amazon faster in most cases. I am 40 miles from Alliance Airport which I think is a hub for Amazon.

I watch Prime Video at least as much as I watch Netflix. Having that streaming service as well as the free shipping seems worthwhile for the price. FWIW, I order a lot from Amazon, and mostly receive items the next day or in two days, very rarely any more than that. I have had some items come the same day as ordered if I ordered in the morning. I'll admit that while I used to look around for the item I want, and then went to Amazon if I couldn't find it elsewhere, now I go right to Amazon on my phone and complete the order in a few seconds. And their return policy is super easy to use.

We use Prime a lot. Living in a small town and being an hour from the big city justifies the ease and convenience of the service. Especially for my SO.
Never used when living in a large community, where options are plentiful.

I love the service Amazon provides. Living in Southern Oregon you would think you could find products relatively easy. It seems most of the small stores and many of the bigger stores now rely on ordering vs. stocking. Why would I want to travel all over town trying to find what I want, or even calling and waiting on hold and attempting to describe items to a clueless clerk- when I can press a few buttons and have what I want delivered in a day or so?

Also, streaming TV with Prime saves more than the cost of the subscription each year on movie tickets. I can’t remember the last time I went to a movie theater. Yes, initial release rental prices are high… so wait a month. They’ll go down.

Just for reference, I live about 15 minutes from town and 30+ minutes from a theater. Every trip into town and back is $5 in gas, and going to Medford or Grants Pass is at least $10 each way. Plus half the day is shot going shopping in either one. Amazon saves me money, time and endless frustration.

At 139 a year they could push me out as well. A buyer would have to be pretty doggone busy on there the amortize that cost.
But there are a lot of benefits with the membership.

For example, ugh, I’m going to regret saying this, but unlimited cloud storage for photos.

Right now I have 431GB of photos and 150GB of video on Amazon. (The videos are an extra $2 per month.)

And they are accessible from any computer.

Also as mentioned Amazon membership comes with Prime Video and Music.

I went with prime when I bought supplements, that way I can order less than $35 worth of supplements and get free shipping and get it ASAP. This also means I get everything else in 2 days. My packages, so far, arrived in 2 days.

I like using Amazon. It's changed a lot in the last year or so, but it's still a good service.

Generally their return policy can't be beat. I bought an RC car on Oct. 20. to match a similar RC car my 8 year old grandson has. About 10-12 days ago the trigger on the controller stopped working. It no longer had the spring attached and just flopped around. Twice I've had them call me about this item and both times my phone rang in under 10 seconds.

The rep said she'd have a new complete car sent out ASAP and I was to take the new controller out of it and return the new car with my broken controller. They provide a link to a shipping label. 7-8 days later I still didn't have it and USPS tracking had it leaving Forest Park, GA and then going cold. My second call the rep said she'd credit me for the original price of the car and I could keep it. I might be able to fix the broken controller. I was to receive the credit within 4-5 business days; I got it in less than 24 hours.

I then ordered the same car new and I should have on Mon. or Tues.

Amazon could have insisted that I send the original car back with the broken controller. It wasn't their fault it broke, and it wasn't their fault that USPS lost the next one. They just decided to eat the cost of the car because I'd done my part.

Between Amazon, Amazon Photo, and Prime movie streaming it's worth the $139 per year cost.

I buy from Amazon sparingly. This past Summer I ordered a few "must haves" in a single order, and apparently my package got damaged during shipment?
On the morning of supposed delivery, I received an email that my order had been canceled, with absolutely no information as to what had actually happened? Just, that I would be issued a refund within 5 business days.
I then ordered the exact same items from walmart.com...And, they arrived a few hours later.
Guess who gets my business now...🤔

...and my wife made an order from Walmart this week to try it again and the last of it showed up today. Some came from our store, some came from our distribution center, some came from abroad and none of it was delivery or shipping, it was both? And they charge my account a cent or two different than the order confirmation states. I hate that as I actually balance my checkbook each month.
