I own quite a few single action handguns but don't have a western style holster. I prefer a crossdraw holster to a western style rig especially on 7.5" guns. With a strongside holster the bbl is too long for a comfortable removal of the gun worn strongside but crossdraw works better for me. It also is more comfortable worn in a vehicle or on a 4 wheeler with the gun at the angle on the left side instead of straight down on the right side. It's hard to find crossdraw holsters from manufacturers. I am having one made now for a 7.5" BFR 480/475 linebaugh pistol I just bought. Magnum Research only list holsters for strongside wear either left hand or right hand. I have concidered looking into a bandoliere type holster rig but haven't tried one yet. To my thinking this would be for shorter bbl's also more than longer ones.

I use crossdraw regardless of the revolver. I find it much quicker to locate the grip with the butt-forward.

When I bought my SBH 7.5" in the early '80's, bought a Bianchi 111 Cyclone cross draw holster too. Still have both. Its been worn on a wading belt, a pack belt, and gets hung on a long belt, and worn bandolier style to hunt. I've never looked for another holster for that gun. steve b

You are not that different. Many of us use a crossdraw holster for our SA's. It's all in how you go about your daily life. And quite often,, a crossdraw is more comfortable to wear.

On the rare occasion when I get to holster a long-barrel single-action it is low on my right side with a separate belt and it is there mostly because I watched too many Westerns growing up.

I like a cross draw with a thumb release. I find, for me, the strap or the hammer thong to be a 2 hand operation for cross draw. Either that or I have to move the gun to far in front of me. The strap or hammer thong works ok for strong side carry for me.

I carried my 7.5 " Redhawk in a Cyclone although I redid the belt loops to get a little more angle.

I've been getting into shorter barrels and really like a Duke style of rig for those.

I have several examples of each and the more I use them, the more I prefer a strongside holster with the slight "FBI cant". I like them to ride high and tight. The Threepersons design is my favorite.

I use my SP101 as my woods/hiking gun now and have found that cross draw is my preferred carry method for it. This time of year, I am usually wearing an open coat and feel I have better access.

Love the SA revolvers but the traditional western style holsters do absolutely nothing for me. Never owned one and unless it's free, never will. Crassdraw does interest me a bit though. Have a e-mail in to Mitch Rosen regarding just such a critter - a Transverse model for a Blackhawk. 8)

I prefer cross draw. For four I do not have cross draw leather; two single action and two double action. I am looking for agreeable cross draw holsters for those as well.

I have always carried my 4" Security Six cross draw in a strong side Hunter holster. That one works really well for me because I typically wear it at about 10 o'clock on my trouser belt. Almost 40 years and works fine.

I have no love for the old western styles. Way too much leather. I like my holsters neat and tidy. Like the one in my
<----- avatar pic. Normally I carry mine on the right side just behind the hip.
However when I relocate to a gun friendly place I plan on giving a cross draw a good try.

I only carry while hunting, fishing, walking the trail, or concealed for continued life in towns and cities. Never for competition.

I like my drop leg tactical style for my SBHH. Puts it right down in the middle of my thigh for a comfortable draw.

I went and picked up my holster today. I like it and with the long bbl it doesn't need a retention strap. I also got a big laugh out of it because I took a holster to the guy to show him the angle I wanted on the belt loop. This holster has the same angle and he worked it just like the other holster was made. The holster I took him was a crossdraw for a 4 5/8" blackhawk. The loop on the back of the new holster is the same size as the 4 5/8" holster full length. The belt part is at the perfect angle just like I wanted and fits great. The BFR is a big gun and it fits this holster great. When I went to pay the guy told me I didn't owe him anything that we would swap it out. When I took my pistol to him he had a old winchester 94 he wanted me to clean for him. I brought his gun home with me and took it down and cleaned it for him while he made my holster. I told him no and gave him $50.00 plus his gun cleaning for my holster. I have priced leather and it's high not counting his time I usually clean a gun for $20.00. He kept trying to give my money back but I refused to take it.

I also carry crossdraw the majority of time. Exception would be pocket holster with P-32.

the other nice thing about cross draw is I can draw cross (of course). I can draw left overhand. And I can grab the gun outta of the holster leftie around the frame and flip it around or hand it to my right.
Like I said earlier, to much equip gets in the way strongside. And if your an Ambi shooter ya might as well take advantage of it in case something suprises you.

Back in the old west I believe most wore their holsters cross draw.
The slim jim style is one of my favorites.
It wasn't until the late 1800's early 1900's that the loop style and buscadero styles came to be and what most term as a western holster nowadays.

I'm going to search for a crossdraw tomorrow at the show. Bianchi has the nylon version I want for woods use, with a full flap optional. Gunmate has one that works also.

Check out some of the old pictures on how they carried their guns, either cross draw or high up on the waist/slightly towards the rear........strong-side!

With a 7.5" bbl drawing strongside to clear the holster its almost under your armpit before clearing holster. Crossdraw its a sweeping motion and not straight up. A lot more comfortable for me. Plus the bbl doesn't bury into the truck seat while driving it hangs off between the door and the seat out of the way
