Last fall I didn't get the apples all picked off the tree due to an early frost that ruined them. I thought I would get them in the spring. Lately "The Birds" have been attacking them on the tree and on the ground. I think they are starlings and I can't shoot them in the city limits.

Lately I've been seeing magpies and robins as well as the starlings. The high wind the last few days has taken a lot of the apples and leaves off the tree. The birds are even getting them on the ground. Other winters I have had deer in the yard that would get the apples. This year I haven't noticed any deer in town. So much for my fresh apple pie!

I've been sniping those little buggers every chance I get....Not only are they annoying, they are one of the bigger threats to Wood Duck nesting productivity!

I kill every starling I see in my yard (I'm inside city limits). I use a .22 cal pellet rifle or a .22 with CB caps.

I'd say a good airgun is your answer... or is that forbidden by city law, too? I've been after the sapsuckers in my trees recently, got some new ones planted and don't want these little rascals to kill them before they get a chance to make something.

I have used a BB/Pellet gun a few times, but if a neighbor sees it and turns it in to the local gustopo, I could get a fine and the gun taken away. They don't come around like that in the summer. I may have to get my first girl friend to be a scarecrow out there. Steve
