This song, sang/sung by Barry Sadler, haunts me. In basic training, our Senior Drill Sergeant played the LP album continuously in the mess hall.

Years later, I listened to it on my cassette player in my trucks. All the songs on this album take me back to the time. I'm so sorry for the Soldiers of that era that were hated by so many.

Memories of that time haunt me, and I can cry easily.

Well, Snake, somehow that brings to mind the Andrews Sisters and some of their patriotic numbers from World War II. "This is the Army Mr. Jones," "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy from Company 'B'" and such. And Kate Smith singing "God Bless America." An America, and times, past.


And, there ain't no bad versions of that song! (sic)

I have the 45RPM "single" of it from back in the day, still in its sleeve. IIRC, the B-side is "Garrison Trooper." I've never listened to it.

Barry Sadler wrote and sang a few good songs.
You should turn the record over and listen to it.
It's a Garet Trooper.
