During our 'family' vacation last week, one of my Cousins made a comment that I hadn't considered or expected. I was carrying my 9mm (of course) and was the self elected 'security guy' for the group. Just sitting around talking about old man stuff, he popped up with this comment: "When we were kids, I always thought Uncle Bill (my Dad) was like a coiled snake always ready to strike. Later after learning more about his experiences in WW2, I figured it was because of the tough spots he'd been. After watching you for 3-4 days, I realize you're just like he was." HMMM-I guess I just watched and learned all those years back. :)

Most of my most valuable lessons were learned from my Dad and another "old man". The second one was 24. Both had eyes that had seen, maybe too much. My kids have those eyes. Sadly one was an infant and the other not yet born when my dad passed. I tried to pass on the wisdom he imparted to me. But I strongly suspect in their time in the USMC they had their "old man". Until they became the "old men".

I know y'all have heard me say it here more than once... My father once in just passing told me just about the worst thing you can do in this life is kill a man... in fact there is only one thing worse than that... have the need to and not the means......

of course we were watching some movie one night and there was some mention of canabalism and eating a person and I just kind of thought out loud wondering what humans taste like and my father probably half asleep said, "they are stringy..." then he got a embarrassed and sad look on his face.... I've often wondered what is the true story of the recon Marines in Korea?
