I know this was discussed recently but the only one I could I could find was 4 years old.
I don’t remember if the decision was made by the post office or ATF. Is it now legal for a non FFL to mail a gun to another person. My memory is if both parties are in the same state and the state doesn’t require going through an FFL it should be legal. Am I on the right track?

Long gun? Or, short gun?

Barring any individual state prohibition, you could always mail a rifle or shotgun to another person within the same state, same as if you were to meet face to face.

Handguns have been treated differently for the most part. Recent DOJ announcements have indicated that handguns will be treated the same as a long gun, but I don't know that is set in stone 🤷‍♂️

Correct.
USPS has conceded that they will again allow the mailing of handguns from a non FFL to a FFL (& back if needed) but they have not yet officially made it policy & there are at least 2 gun grabbing members of Congress who are contesting it, which is helping to hold up its implementation.
