A little help on value please...

I have an opportunity to purchase an above average Ruger No.3 in 30-40 Krag. It's a rifle only wood and metal are nice. Thoughts on price?

Blue Book has a tendency to undervalue Ruger single shots, and does not keep up with the current market. The best guide to true value is to search the internet auction sites and find out what they have ACTUALLY SOLD FOR recently.

Would be easier on the advisers you are asking advice from if you would tell us the price and then the conversation could be about whether it is a buy, so-so, or too high!

Also. Value will vary ,depending on area of country. The 200th year will also add a bit of value, too. Extra figured wood will help on value.

Similar at a gun show last Spring with an asking price of $600 and he would have sold it if offered $550.

I apologize I was in a hurry yesterday when I asked the question, I hate it when my day job gets in the way! I'm a No.1 fan thru out but I have been considering a No.3 as I don't see many and just might be fun to have one. A LGS has a 200th year No.3 30-40 Krag, it has couple small dings in the wood (plain) but the metal looks clean, no mounts or rings he is asking $840. I really appreciate your feed back.

I would say that's pretty steep for the rifle you describe, but then, I'm not much of a No. 3 fan.
To me, that rifle is only worth about $650 or so; others will no doubt disagree.
Now a 30-40 in a No. 1S with nice wood. . . . .that would get my heart racing!

I think $840 is a fair price; not a steal, but not out of line. Many of the Krags were 200th year marked and this is a +, in my opinion.
