A couple different grip materials to try.

My supplier of American Holly showed me a few different pieces a while back that interested me so I gave one a try. I'm not sure what the entire background it, but this Holly has greenish streaking throughout that I'm hoping will look like heavily aged ivory in time. Holly has a tendancy to amber over time so I'm hoping that this is the case this time around.

I also stubled upon some curly white oak cut and sawed in Iowa not far from where I grew up. I got the piece for a song and the first set of grips proved to turn out real nice and I was pleasently surprised at how nicely it worked. Oak has a real coarse grain that normally isn't real fit for grips but this was a bit different.

It's tough to show 3D grain in pictures and it looks like I'll have to work on my photography skills a bit more to try and show off the true beauty of some of these materials. You'd think that after taking over 2,500 pictures of grips I'd have it down by now... But anyways, here's the pics.

Nope, just Ruger single actions and a few 2nd Gen Colt SAA grips a year.

I have several pairs of your grips and always have been pleased
with them. But I am in the minority here, I dont like them. I like Your Holly grips but the "green" in these just does not appeal to me and I have never been a fan of Oak for grips. JM honest opinion.
Like Cars, Guns, and women different strokes for different folks.

I like the holly grips the best... but the coating looks rough like mild orange-pealing.
Would you normally work the finish more or is that your standard finished product?

That is pretty much my standard finish. My experience has been that the glossy finish is toned down greatly with a few good uses so I don't spend a lot of time building up the finish. Instead, I spend that time making other grips or with my family.

I have sort of a 12" rule when it comes to surface finish. If it is not obvious when viewed in good light from 12", then I let it go. But sanding marks and spots that can be felt with the hand are reworked. The images make the grips appear to be about 4" away so some of the surface imperfection that otherwise wouldn't be noticed stick out in the light. The "orange peel" really isn't that obvious when viewed with the naked eye.

Well' I've been at your web sight before and you have great choices of woods and for lots of models... good work!

BTW,... I can't even see to read at 12 inches. :lol:
