9mm ammo

Has 9mm ammo historically been much less expensive than most ammo? I have a 380 and man that stuff is up there. Of all the cals I have looked at for cc 9mm seems to be by far the least expensive. Has this always been the case or is it destine to catch up with the other cals?

Generally,, the calibers that are harder to find command a premium price. 9mm is so common,, that with all the competition in the manufacturing business, coupled with the mil-surp stuff,,, prices are cheaper for that caliber.

thumbs - you could reload for the 380 ACP and practice ammo would then be much cheaper.

yeah thanks I do reload 380. Just started reloading center fire stuff. I was just wondering if 9mm is always lower priced than most other cals. I also notice that brass is a lot cheaper. I guess it's supply and demand but if memory serves me right I think I found 9mm brass for about 11 bucks and the same amount of 380 for 36 bucks. I could be wrong but I do remenber it was a lot more.

As a rule, military calibers are cheaper and easier to find than anything else. The only exception to that might be the .357 Mag or 30-30.
380's have shown a spurt in popularity of late but the ammo companies haven't caught up, likely won't, and might not even want to. It simply aint a high volume cartridge for them, so I doubt you'll ever see 380 stuff as cheap as 9MM stuff. Leastways, that's how it's been throughout my adult life.

38special has always been cheep, not as cheep as 9mm but almost.

Get you a wheel gun in 38sp or 357mag. They are easy and cheep to feed.

Yeah been thinking about another handgun. I know they are completely different but I'm going back and forth between a Glock 26 and a Ruger SP101. Of course its not to save money on ammo. It would take a long time to make that difference up. I like them both but probable should get the Ruger. I can't even find brass for the 380.

The spike in popularity of .380 "mouse guns" over the last couple of years has driven up the prices of those guns AND the ammo that goes with them. Before that, like you mentioned, .380 ammo was relatively higher in cost than its bretheren, but not like it is now.

I wouldn't even attempt to buy any factory ammo for this caliber, if available, due to the insane prices retailers are asking.

Thank goodness I, inadvertently, accumulated a small cache of .380 brass and factory ammo before all this panic buying started. I think I paid about $12 per 100 count of Starline .380 brass from Midway (sale price) plus a 500 count box of Miwall (gun show ammo) factory new ammo for $27, all prior to the anticipation of the coming obama regime.
