I was always of the thought a 9mm 1911 was of no use until I hit the range with my new 9mm Range Officer. Opinion changed...love it.

That's a good combo... Do you know if there are any differences in 9mm mags for 1911s or is it pretty much like the 45...one size "kinda fits" all?

Converting the Colts to 38 Super requires 38 Super magazines..........That is what came with the "Kits" and one was already in the gun, using the 38 mags........Just sayin'

The 1911 is a dream to shoot in 9mm. I'm not sure why anyone with an open mind would find one "of no use". Brass is easy to find. Reloading is cheap. It doesn't take much lead to pour your own. Even factory ammo is reasonable. Some people don't like them for the simple reason that they are not 45 acp. But I love me some of both. I'm glad you got it figured out.

As far as magazines go, it is pretty much one size fits all for 1911 9mm mags. But of course, a specific gun may perform better with one brand over another.

I love 9mm`s and I hope yours works well over time although I`ve never seen a 1911 9mm that worked well over time, that could have changed. Browning designed the 1911 as a 45acp and the Hi power in 9mm. Although I`ve had 1911's in 45 that didn`t work perfect, so who knows. All my 1911`s over time were 45`s. but who knows I might love a 9mm.

I think there are so many great 9`s out there now that are better but what looks as good as a 1911! I just purchased a Ruger 1911 commander and when it gets here I'm sure I`ll love it. Enjoy your gun

I hope you do. I thought the Ruger was great until I got the RO. Fit is much better.

I'm sure it is but I'm one of those who've never seen any use for that chambering in that platform. If I want 9mm, there are dozens of other choices on the market that give me the options of smaller size, higher capacity, double action, etc. etc., and often several of those options in one gun. If I'm going to tote and shoot a 1911, it might as well be in .45.

If I had access to unlimited FREE 9mm ammo I might get interested in one. Till then, I have several .22LR 1911 conversions that provide me with plenty of cheap 1911 shooting.

And BTW, I'm not a 9mm hater. I own five, in fact: Two P.38s, one Browning P.35, and two S&Ws.

It is nice in the fact it holds 10 rounds and the lower report and recoil make shooting it fun.

Snake: I love 1911s of many flavors. But I wouldn't conceal carry any of them (9 or 45). Like you said, there are better options. I can get 12 + 1 in my 9c with less weight OR I can pocket carry my LCR OR...

BTW, good luck finding ammo for that 22.

I'm good, thanks for your concern.

I don't carry compacts, all my carry guns are full size. Besides I get tired of the capacity argument. How many times you plan on shooting the poor bastard lol!

Most of these mall ninjas will need several mags full in order to hit the target once. I. Can't argue with carrying a full size gun. If I had to pick a few ... They'd be the CZ75B or Sig P226.

The RO is in the next price tier ... As I've said all along ... There are very distinct price points in the 1911 market, and each price tier truly gets you a considerably better gun. That's why it's a fools errand to try to 'mod up' a lower tier gun into a better gun. It never pays off.

The Ruger IS a great gun, but it's entry level, and when you get to the next tier at $800-900, you get a better overall gun ... It's just that simple. A manufacturer doesn't survive long at a given price point if it's discovered that the value isn't there, because the competition is very fierce, and other guns at that price point will truly outperform it.

I couldn't find a Springfield, so ended up with a Taurus 9mm 1911 type gun. Shoots very well and haven't had a bit of trouble in close to 1K rounds thru it. Mags that came with it were junk, but some checkmate mags cured that.

Taurus makes a decent 1911. They've come a long way since 10 years ago. It has lots of bling if you like that stuff, and is very reasonably priced. Ive shot several 45's from Taurus and was favorably impressed with them. THeyre worth very little on the used market just because of the name, but that doesn't change the fact that they shoot and function very well.

I'd buy one if I ever found one in 9mm used at a good price. I remember about a year ago CDNN had the two tone gold and stainless 38 Supers for $399. I was tempted but the whole gold thing turned me off and I passed. If it had been in 9MM I probably would have gone for it, and just had the hideous gold stuff cerakoted.

I picked up a turaus pt1911 9mm stainless (2011 date) with what looked like less than a full box through it for $365 OTD with box & all goodies including unsubmitted warranty paper. It did shoot a little low. After reading several internet gossip gun sites, I heard that was kinda the norm for the 9mm version, but Turaus would make it right. I opted for a Novak adjustable rear sight instead of sending it back. It is a pleasure to shoot. I really like the gun. The grips on a PT1911 are a little different than most std 1911 grips, but grips specific to the PT1911 are easily found. I have been having an issue with the slide not locking back after last round recently....but I have not cleaned it in a while either. Overall I'm very pleased with my $430 (including novak sight) 1911 9mm.

I look at the 9mm Range Officer as very interesting. Imbel down in Brazil builds good basic stuff sold through SA in the US. With a 9mm (9x19) you can play 9x19 or go to 9x23 Winchester, or maybe 38 Super (9x23SR).

I agree with some of what you say but when you talk about getting a better gun, exactly what are you talking about is better. Are you arguing forged vs, cast or are you picking certain parts, if so which ones...or are you talking resale value......

A gun doesn`t have to have a the best finish to shoot very well, finish is just a preference. Norinko built good guns that looked poor. It`s been proved over and over that the most expensive guns that cost 3/4 times what many 1911`s sell for only give small improvements for a very big price, plus they lose large amounts of money when you sell them. "Good and better" are very big tents that many use all the time but fail ever to add the particulars. Accuracy is another statement that many use loosely, yet 99% of the gun owners aren't as accurate as a $400 1911 why would they need a $3000 gun. Jim
