I bought a used 77/22 several years ago that shoots well but that occasionally has trouble ejecting the spent case. Is this a common problem? Is there an easy fix for it? I am using 77/22 magazines rather than 10/22 magazines. The 10/22 magazines really give problems with ejection.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to strip down the bolt?

edit: Ooops, I should have put this in the rimfire section.

.22LR or .22Mag?

The magazines are the same and have nothing to do with ejection. Ruger went to a dual extractor somewhere around 2000 because of some report of a failure to extract. These rifles have a fixed ejector, so I doubt that is the problem and rather you have an extraction issue. Make sure the chamber is clean and take a look at the bolt and see if it has 1 or 2 extractors.

The extraction is quite good. The problem is that the case occasionally does not hit the ejector and remains gripped tightly to the bolt by the extractors.

The magazines are a little different. The 10/22 has a round bottom and the 77/22 has a flat bottom. A 10/22 does stick out some in front when used in a 77/22. The lips do appear to be the same.

It has two extractors. The serial number is 700-52XXX.

edit: I found instructions on how to strip down the bolt.
