Are barrels interchangable with a 10/22? I've seen pictures of them with bull barrels, do they attach the same way?
Thanks, Alan

The older ones attached the same way. I think Ruger might have changed the 77/22 to a screw-in barrel or some other system a couple years ago--but I could be wrong about that. :?

I'm thinking that the barrels on the older ones are almost interchangeable, except for some difference in the extractor cuts, or something of that sort.

Been a while since I read anything on this, so I could be wrong. Maybe someone else will have more definitive information. :?

77/22 Hornets were all screw in barrels, the .22LR, .22WMR, and .17HMR all went to screw in this year. Previous years were all clamp in barrels like the 10/22.

They are similar and attach the same way, before they went to threading but they do not interchange. Clark Custom would be my first choice in a 77/22 barrel.

All you need to do is add a shim on the shank to go from 77-22 to 10-22.The other way around you have to turn the shank longer on a lathe.

How about the 96/22 will the barrel interchance with a 10/22?
I have a silenced 10/22 but the cycle of the action still makes noise, want to interchange by barrel system to a manual action.

The 96/22 barrels are the same as 10/22 barrels except that they have two extractor cuts in the breechface. I believe Green Mountain makes barrels for them.

I guess I don't really understand you idea??The action is still going to cycle no matter which barrel you use. They do make a bolt lock to keep the action from moving.Basicly make the 10-22 a single shot.Do a search on google for 10-22 bolt lock.Slow

Awesome, thats what I was hopeing for, to be able to cycle the action manually!

Now I can focus on better optics (punn intended)

I see Shilen makes all kinds of barrels for Ruger 17s and 22s, would
they be drop in or would there be machinist work involved?

They will be a direct swap. No work needed. I have a Shilen match barrel on a 77/22 mag and it is accurate beyond my shooting skills! A bit pricey but worth the money.

Correct. I've got a GM barrel made for a 96/22 getting drilled & tapped now that'll be on a 10/22 build. Just an extra extractor groove on the breech face is all that's different. :)

Finally, somebody has come up with a time period of when this change occured in the 77/22!! So if it happened when Ruger's .22 Hornet models came out (1994), there should be 1994 produced 77/22's with and without screw in barrels for that year. This would have been in the 701-65008 to 701-79397 serial number range. Anybody got a 77/22 in that range they can check??

Are you saying some of the first Hornets were clamp in? I ask because the Hornet has always had a slightly different receiver than the other (bolt release) so I figured it was designed to be screw in from the start.

My Hornet is a 720-

My 1999 77/22V, bought brand new, has a clamped barrel. The rimfires were clamped barrels until very recently--the last year or two.
