6" blued Security Six value?

What's the approx. value of a used blued 6" Security Six? It's in about 90-95%condition with a very slight cylinder turn ring and slight holster wear on the tip of the barrel edge. It comes with the original red cardboard box. I saw one today and they want $450 for it, which seeemed a bit steep to me, but I haven't researched them...so I may be wrong. Thanks!

I think it's steep.
I believe if your patient you'd be able to find one in the $300 - 350 range.

They aren't making any more of them. It would be hard to find as good a revolver for $450....The box is worth $25-40 by itself. Buy it if you want one.

Assuming a 357 mag and a highback, it's a little on the 'proud' side. If it's a 38 spl. and / or a low back, it could be a good deal.
Red box was used for only about 18 months so is one of the less common boxes. Was introduced after the low back production switched to high back, however, some lowbacks were shipped in the red boxes.

I guess the real bottom line to your question is why do you want this gun. If you collect Rugers and this will fill a missing spot in your collection the price is almost irrelevant, if it's the one you want and you got to have it, buy it!

If you want a gun for self defensive or recreational shooting I think you could either get a lot more gun for THAT money, or a near equivalent gun for a lot less.
In the last 6 months I bought very nice Blued GP100 4" for $300 and a near perfect Stainless SP101 2.25" for $345. Neither one came with the box, but I don't shoot with a box. LOL
Davidsons has brand new Blued 4" GP100 38s on sale right now and I bet you can find a dealer in your area that can put one in your hand, tax and all, for well under $450

Like someone else suggested; if this will finish a collection it might be worth it. Otherwise that sounds pretty steep. A 6" Security Six .357 is great for field carry, whether blue or stainless. I paid much less than $300 for each of my two 6" blue .357 Sixes in Utah 2-1/2 years ago. Why two? Just happened.

Sold one in about 85% condition at public auction a couple months ago for $375. $450 sounds high.....you can find a good GP100 for that price. But if you want it then don't worry about an extra 50 bucks.......just buy the thing. They ain't making no more of them. And the ones that are already made aren't gettin any cheaper.
