Just been trying this bullet in a couple of guns and so far not much luck in the accuracy. Anyone have any experience with this one in 45 colt caliber??

6.0 gr of Red Dot is the factory duplication load. I used that for a plinker, but always used heavier SWCs for anything else.

Which model of that mold # do you have? The original Ideal (Lyman) was almost pointed with a small flat point just like the 45 colt of the 1800s. At some point, Lyman modified it to the current model where the flat point is much wider. I have to newer one but would sure like to find an original.
Brian Pearce did an excellent article on the 45 colt in Handloader several issues back where he talked about the change over. He was using an original in his loading for that article.
I use a max load of Trail Boss for my lighter loads. I rreally like that powder!

It shouldn't be that bad of a boolit for a 45 Colt looking at the drawings. What load are you using? It looks like it would work well for a heavy 1911 boolit for about 850fps.

FWIW, if you haven't tried any HS-6 you should. For moderate loads it has been better than anything else I have tried.

I have an original Ideal 454190 mold. The bullets cast out somewhere around 456" and around 255grs when cast of wheel weights. Size them to .455" and load them over 8.0grs Unique or 7.1grs 231 and it's a very accurate bullet.

Size them smaller, they don't work so good.

No experience with the newer molds.

If you ever decide you want to get rid of that old model mold, keep me in mind. I don't care for the new style that much. The one you have is just like to original.

That bullet normally shoots well in most 45 Colt sixguns. Just remember, size them big.
