454 Redhawk

Thanks to a fellow member here, I was finally able to assemble my dream gun.
I've been hunting for parts, and even, almost bought a completed one, that was for sale here last year, but I'm glad I waited to see this through to the end.
I may eventually brush it, to match the frame, but I'm actually liking the target gray cylinder against the brushed finish

If you want it all stainless I think Flitz metal polish will remove the target grey finish. Do a search on this forum, I think some guys have done it.

No problem! Just cut the cases back to 1.4-inch. The headstamp will read .460 Smith & Wesson Magnum! :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

I have a .480 SRH that is Target Grey - don't think it will "wear off" anytime soon. I have a stainless cylinder I'd like to put in it, to have a sort of reverse effect of yours, but hesitate to do it myself, and can't find any local 'smiths that want to do it, either.

Looks good, though.

I wouldn't have done this and I think that it could be dangerous. Ruger used the super Redhawk platform frame for a reason with the 454. 454 is a very powerful cartridge and load it to extremely high pressures and uses a rifle primer. You're going to work the durability of the super Redhawk platform. I would err on the side of caution.

It isn't dangerous at all. It been successfully done quite a few times over several decades without incident. The cylinder handles the pressure as it should. The Redhawk frame is identical to the Super Redhawk with the exception of the nose piece where the barrel is screwed in. The frame can handle the 454 round easy.

Nice. The Redhawk can handle the 454 fine, but don't think I could handle that recoil in a Redhawk. :oops:
