Hi,it's still there,look under new guns,type in "ruger" and it's about halfway through the list. There's also a 44 magnum at the same price. The website is awkward to navigate but it's there.

I personally would rather have a .44 Alaskan but the now relative rarity of the .454 Alaskan has prices through the roof, unless Ruger made another batch of them.

Thanks, I found it. They sent me some photos. Just my opinion, but that gun has a pretty evident cylinder ring and the sharp edges seem kind of soft for a new gun. It is very recent production. I guess it could just be the lighting, but I'll pass.

Your Right Arrow54 - there is just a little ring on it. And a close look at the front of the cylinder shows a little dirtier than you might expect from a gun with only one round thru it. My guess would be about 7 .454 Casulls. Oh well, I'll just have to deal with it - Thanks for not buying it! This is my first Ruger/Revolver and I am just pleased as hell about ! I saw/bought this 44 oz of LOVE online and freaked when I found out how close I came to not getting it - I ordered it about 12 hours after your last post. Every word in description was shorted/mis-spelled on the website and I only found it by Googling the UPC code (pg 18 of 21). But now I have it and can stop obsessing about finding one and start obsessing about firing one! And reading this forum is already starting it have an effect on me - I'm beginning to think of my other guns bottom-feeders...

I think Ruger has started a new production run of the 454. I just bought one and it was test fired April 18 (date on the fired cartridge envelope) and I bought it on the 23rd. The fit and finish are great and recoil isn't that bad. If you watch youtube you would think recoil would scare off people. The gun was easy to break down. The trigger guard release plunger was easily depressed and the assembly pulled free without excessive force. I've read alot of comments on how hard it was to remove the trigger guard assembly but the fit and finish on mine seems to be good. The action is smooth in both single and double action. I haven't put my gauge on it yet but the feel is good. The cylinder chambers are mirror polished and I've had no sticky case problems. I've fired 50 rounds of HSM 325 grain hardcast gas check through it and they are a handful but not what I would call excessive. Local price on these is $52 bucks for 50. I also bought speed loaders from Diamond D leather and a holster and chest strap from Simply Rugged Leather. The holster can be worn strong side or cross draw and the chest strap allows it to be worn as a chest or shoulder holster. Very reasonable rig at $120. I'll put a few more rounds though it this weekend and then send the cylinder off to TK Custom to have it machined to take their 45 ACP full moon clips. I also have the 45 Colt inserts that allow me to fire 22 LR . This makes for quite a survival weapon. Well, I'm off to burn up ammo. I hope all of you looking for a 454 find one soon. I'm really enjoying mine.

I have had one of these for several years and it's a favorite. I have a 480 SRH sent off now having it cut down to the alaskan size. I have always liked the shorter barreled guns. I haVE A 29 s&w 3" so I wasn't interested in having a 44 alaskan and I missed out on the 480 alaskans so I am having my 7.5" cut to 2 1/2". I talked to the guy last week and he was supposed to finish it this week so I should have it home before long and give it a whirl. I can hardly wait

Ruger proofs every chamber on a revolver, so they are usually going to show up a little dirty. Since its a stainless gun, a scotch pad will clean up any marks pretty easily.
