45 Win Mag in a Redhawk

I like the 45 Win mag. I have a bunch of rounds for my Freedom Arms revolver (4 cylinders) NIB. Have not been able to bring myself to shoot it. I prefer a DA revolver. Is it safe to shoot 45 Win Mag in the new 45/45ACP Redhawk? If not who could fit it with a cylinder which would be safe? Thanks.

Ordered one today. May try the 45 Super and 460 Rowland. Got to get out of this chair. My therapist says, " The recliner is not your friend". I kind of like it and my leg is still painful.

I was always surprised nobody made an auto loading carbine in 45 Win Mag, but it would be cool to shoot it in a Redhawk. I used to see boxes of Winchester 45 Win Mag ammo dirt cheap

So what is the advantage of the .45 Win Mag in the beefy Redhawk when you can simply load up Heavy Colt .45 loads to do the same thing without any moon clip issues?
A 250 gr. XTP over 20-21 gr. of 2400 should do most big jobs or go to a 300 gr. hammerhead bullet!

The advantage of the 45 WinMag is more or less moot, unless one has access to low cost factory ammo or already loads the 45 WinMag and has them on hand. In my case I already had some on hand for my T/C Contender so I loaded them up in moon clips and a way we went. These were loaded with a 255 SWC over a stiff charge of Blue Dot. I'd probably use the same load in a stout 45 Colt load. I was using Starline cases and since my revolver is cut for standard 1917 style clips, I had no trouble with the clips. As Mr. Taffin stated in his fine article, I could see carrying 6 45 Colt rounds in the gun and using moon clipped ammo for a fast reload, with either acp's or Win Mags. :mrgreen:

Case length is 1.198" so it's only very slightly shorter than the .45Colt. It would have to do better than the .45ACP. Not something I'd fool with personally but it is an option.

John Taffin used to own a Dan Wesson in .45 Win Mag, with a slew of moon clips and several barrels in various lengths. One of the barrel shrouds was engraved with his handle, "The Sixgunner". He sold it to give the money to a missionary (Jim Taylor) - I nearly bought it myself and wish I had, even if it wasn't a Ruger.
