45 Vaquero ?

just to be sure the new model vaqueros have new model on the frame right? I found me a 45 that I want to get. it has ruger vaquero 45 colt on the side of the frame. I want the older one so i can fire the hotter reloads from it.I sure it is the old one but just making sure.

They do on the 45 Colt models I believe (not on the 44 spls though).

I'm thinking (but not positive) most of the full size Vaqueros will have the warning on the side of the barrel. The exception would be if you found one recently put together from old parts. Serial number range would give you another indication.

it is the 4 3/8 barrel and it does have the warning on it. i just dont want the light weight new version.

I have heard a rumor that the new vaqueros just coming out of the plant just say vaquero on them but i havnt seen it yet.
just check the weight on the one you are looking at and compare it to the weight on ruger-firearms. the new ones are 40oz and the OM are 46oz i think.

The "New Vaquero" or Vaquero that is new without the "New" will also have;
Ruger's New Vaquero features an ejector alignment pawl with a fully-retracting hand, as compared to the projecting hand of the original Vaquero, allowing proper alignment of the ejector rod.

If looking at the pawl, to the left of it, a "New Vaquero" will have a little plunger looking thingee.

Easy way:

The large frames have a 2-digit prefix. The medium frames have a 3-digit (510 thus far)

My Vaquero 44 mag has the alloy ejector rod. If I'm not mistaken the earlier Vaq's had alloy and was changed to steel later.

My Vaquero ejector housing is alloy. It is one from the first year they came out.

A quick check of my RENE shows that the changeover from alloy to steel ejector housing occured in 1999. So the first six years of production had the alloy.

I'd never heard or retained that. My only Vaquero is a '97 or '98 stainless Bisquero .44 mag.
