45 Stainless flattop

I'm usually a blue steel and walnut guy, but that gun sure looks nice.
Make it a 4 5/8 barrel and I would probably get one. Make it a 4 5/8 Bisley and I would go in debt to buy the first one I could find.
Of course I'd have to find a piece of marble cake french walnut to make grips for it.

Were it a .41...Dang I want a SS Blackhawk .41 in that barrel length bad.
Been thinking bout one of these but don't really want to add yet another cartridge to the pile. That is a looker though.

Glad I didn't buy the new convertible flattop 45.....I prefer stainless.

I ordered one of these yesterday (SS, 5.5"). When my LGS called Lipsey's, they said that they had none currently in stock, but were starting to get a few in every now in then. I'm on the list...

$671.45 out the door. I placed the order the same afternoon that Lipseys added it to their website. When my LGS phoned in the order, it was not currently in stock....I'm on the waiting list, so it's not out the door yet.
Yes, I probably could have saved a few bucks by going to a different dealer, but my LGS is a Mom+Pop operation and I don't mind spending a little extra to help keep them in business.

There is one sitting down at a gun shop here.... Nobody has snapped it up yet.... So they are starting to show up. I believe it is a convertible too. Something like $569 or so.... It came in when my blued flattop.45 Colt convertible arrived 8) .

I want one of these so bad I have started checking credit card balances and considering going in debt to buy one - something I almost never am willing to do.
Anybody handle one of these yet? I assume the balce will be like a New Vaquero with the smaller frame and cylinder. I have been hitting my local shops to try to find one to handle. Problem is, odds of me ever setting back down are about NILL!
I am just about ready to have my dealer order me one.

When you get your stainless .45 flattop, you'll note that the catalog number on the box label makes no mention of the grips being simulated ivory. Heard Lipsey's got a great deal on them so Ruger just slapped them on. I take it the blue version also has simulated ivory?
And they're gunfighter grips....there's an extra part (an insert) that acts as a bushing for the grip screw between both panels so that the thin grips at that area don't implode. I DON"T LIKE THE GRIPS. Doesn't fill a hand.

The blued guns have the simulated ivory grips too. Now for me the thinner grips work.... But I'll be changing these out for some nice wood Bear Paw grips which are thin as well. Plus these plastic grips really don't fit very well.
My three gripes for my revolver are (so far) :
1) .45 Colt throats were .450 (remedied with a reamer)
2) cylinder/barrel gap .008 (can't do anything about it)
3) Ivory grips don't fit well. (Will remedy with new grips)
Other than that ... I like it.

Good stuff! Now if they make the blued convertible in a 4 5/8", I'm in trouble.

I ran into one of the stainless in a local shop today. They seem to get all the Lipsey's stuff ASAP. Had to bring it home with me.

I still want a 5.5-inch Stainless Bisley Blackhawk in 44 Mag run again and it has been a long time since they made those!

I have a pair of engraved New Model vaquero's 45 colt with consecutive serial numbers "one of one thousand"stainless series.They have the white gunfighter grips on them and I like them. Wish all of mine had them.
Yes.... Same medium frame, same cylinder. The flattop .45 would be rated around 20,000psi, while the standard BH .45 is rated around 30,000psi. 20,000psi is nothing to sneeze at.... See Brian Pearce's article in hand-loader for tier II loads

Just slightly off-topic but could someone explain to me why those guns are considered to have a limit of 20,000 psi when they come with a .45 acp cylinder and .45 acp has a maximum SAAMI pressure of 21,000 standard and 23,000 +P? Jeff Quinn at Gunblast says the guns are plenty strong for 45 acp +P, I realize the .45 acp cylinder has ever so slightly more meat in the cylinder walls but is it enough to account for that much difference? I'm just curious.

I believe in the Brian Pearce article Rclark referenced the reference was to 21,000 psi, but the 1,000 psi difference can be the difference between primer X or Y. If you want hot .45 Colt, play with the standard Blackhawk. The 270 gr .454SAA slug at around 1000 fps will handle most reasonable things asked of it.

Thanks, guys, especially M'Bogo. I have no intentions of even hot-rodding my existing Blackhawks, let alone a flattop or New Vaquero convertible should I get one or more. I've just been curious about the .45 acp option in the smaller-framed models. For several years before they came out with them, many knowledgeable writers and posters ventured to say Ruger would not make the smaller guns into convertibles even though SAA's and other clones had been offered that way for years due to the thinness of the cylinder walls and Ruger's deeper bolt-stop notch (even though it is well off-set). Obviously, new management at Ruger felt differently and does not in every case over-build their guns to the extent of Bill Ruger.

The same article(s) by Mr. Pearce about the .45 Colt we are referencing, he broke down the .45 Colt into four or five pressure ceilings. Depending on the age, size, and metallurgy in the firearms referenced.
Also, check out the Gunblast article about the New Vaquero, from when it was introduced. Cylinder measurements of the major players are compared, and the new midframe Ruger cylinder is a bit bigger in diameter than the Colt's. More of a safety window for the .45 ACP loads.
I just think of these midframe Ruger's as available, more economical versions of the Colt New Frontier. You can afford two for the price of every Colt. I know, four clicks, the name (that's been sold to corporations, and run into the ground however many times since Sam passed away), and the romance...
