45 lc all around load

My 2 bits....my 3.5" SA with factory grips grinds the hide off'n my hand after 20 rounds or so with 8 gr of Unique under the 250-ish Keith. That is a boom'n load and would likely pass through 2 miscreants and keep going to the third. Who needs more? But I gotta get some smooth Elk grips!

Isn't that 8.5 charge with a 250ish bullet pretty stout for a Uberti ,colt or USFA gun? Just wondering.I have fired some with 7.5 with a 252 to 253 grain SWC and they seemed pretty stout loads.However,I do not have a crony so I really don't know how fast they are going. By the way I have not found a good shooting load in any charge of Unique as yet. Could be the shooter or maybe I am not pushing them fast enough??Let me know what you think. Thanks olsherm

In all of my 5 1/2" SAs (2 Colts and 2 Rugers) 8.5 Unique and 250/260 cast bullets gives right around 900 fps, shoots accurately and recoils moderately. This is just about the level of real (as opposed to reduced) factory loads and is not hard on the gun or my hands. It is a "real, honest to goodness" load, but nothing like the Ruger only loads.
