So I find a LNIB police trade in Glock- I just had to have it. I knew it was a 45 Gap gun and that was one of the reasons I liked it, less felt rcoil and 45 cal, sounded good to me! Now when I go to buy ammo local sticker shock! I have found ammo on line at a fair price but I have also read some post saying folks reload these with 45 ACP cases, cut down and 45 ACP dies. Now that seems reasonalb ro me as this can be done with 357 dies and cases and 38spl. However what has me a little concereded is the 45Gap uses small pistol primers and the 45 ACP large. I assume these folks are using the large so they fit in the case, but I was a little concerned this might cause problems with the gun and feed issues . Has anyone used the ACP cases with good results?

THINK: ONLY the small primers FIT the 45GAP...only the large primers fit the 45ACP with large pistol primer pockets.
And a set of properly dimensioned loading dies can load both the 45GAP and 45ACP cartridges...[...and 45COLT, 45AR, and 45WINMAG also I should add.

I know a guy who has a .357 sig...said he bought it before pricing ammo...he shoots it in IDPA and he's very appreciative when you find his brass and return it to him... 
I am not super up on the 45gap design, but I am assuming they have it designed to use the small pistol primers on their Gap Ammo, and as I say I have read just as 57K says here there should be no reason cut down ACP rounds will not chamber
correctly in the gun, however on the back of the case we have this large primer covering an area that was not designed to be covered by primer, I think it will go bang, and my guess is at a hotter level. But I do not know anyone who has done this and has done it with success. This is why I am asking. I have a bunch of 45 ACP brass if I can cut it down and use it great, but I agree I do not want 4 large then one small etc, etc. I would like to keep it consistant and only use cut down or bite the bullet and buy the GAP shoot it an reload it. The claim made by glock is the slide is thinner than 45 ACP, but the round are the same dia, I can not see how the slide could be thinner, shorter maybe but thinner??

5Card, you shouldn't have any problems with the large primer .45s cut down to GAP length. I have a friend the reloads for the .45GAP and uses cut down ACP cases. He does 2 things, he keeps his ACP brass completely separate from the GAP brass, and within the GAP brass he keeps the small and large primered cases separate (for ease of reloading one type at a time).

The cost of 45GAP cases is only $3 more per 500 cases at Starline and they are available. I say buy the correct cases and reload.
