.45 Colt Triple 7

Was reading about using triple 7 FFG in .45 Colt. The instructions were to fill the case up to the bottom of the bullet and not compress. Easy enough to do with the calipers. Using a 200 gr swc that put right around 23.2 grs in the case. I'll probably shoot these from the Ruger BH. The information on cleanup was to use water. I've seen various brews suggested.

Anyone else have any experience with these loads?

The corrosion issues are enough to scare me away. Yes, I've shot a lot of black powder & substitutes over the years, in muzzle-loaders.

In my experience, the residue from real BP aint near as corrosive as what's left from the substitutes that I've tried. In either event, unless you are totaly adversed to cleaning guns after a firing session, corrosion simply aint an issue with either.

Soapy water and a good drying followed by a light coat of oil is all it takes. Folks has done it that way for decades.

A favorite cleaner with the BPCR folks is warm water with a little Windex with Vinegar mixed in. Triple 7 is a different critter though and cleans up just fine with water. It's not corrosive like black or Pyrodex. I use it exclusively in my Encore.

I've got a can of FFG Triple-7 and intend to try some out in my two .45LC guns soon.
What kind of bullet lube are you using? All I have on hand is Alox.

While many folks have secret recipes, SPG is the top of the list in commercailly available lubes. I shoot a 45-70 Shiloh Sharps 1874 Long Range Express and I use SPG to lube even when using 5744 instead of BP. It's available from Midway plus I think they even carry cast bullets pre lubed with SPG. It allows that 525 gr. "government" bullet (457125) to glide down the barrel without leading.

I don't use lubed bullets in the Encore. I use sabots all together. They work great with Tripple 7.

On page two he says no need for special lube with 777. I used some cast bullets with the blue lube. I will post results when I shoot them.

Well guys,
I shoot a lot of Triple 7 in CAS.
No.1 it is corrosive. The Mfg. says it is.
No.2 It cleans up with plain water then I oil with Ballistol.
No.3 Ya don't need a black powder bullet lube. Smokless works and the Mfg states that.
No.4 it has about 15% more power than true black powder.
No.5 I would use FFFg in pistol rounds. Works for me.
