Welcome to the Forum!
By the fact you posted a model number,, it appears you have the box.
If so, look at the label again & see what it says. It may have; KBNV-45, or KNV-45.
Next, if you post part of the serial number such as 57-123XX we can help a bit more.
To help you learn more, we need a bit more info.

ROFL,

BOY am I a dummy, I forgot to ask , for my 45 00575 ser 57-141XX what is the best ammo to use { all types }.. I do my own reloads for my 45 golden Boy Henny.. Love that gun..I want to get into Cowboy shoots here in Ohio. I was told not to shoot led in it but that is what they use..this Gun is brand new out of the box, never fired. Dos any one have information what these should cost ? and yes make big holes !!! that was good statement gmartinnc good one.. the book that came with it dos not tell much for it... I hope this helps.. Michael

If you want to get into Cowboy Action Shooting with it, it's a nice gun. The loads you will use will have lead bullets. You can shoot either smokeless or black powder/black powder substitute loads out of it.
Cowboy action loads are low velocity with softer lead bullets as we are shooting at relatively short distances.
For cowboy shooting, you will need another single action revolver, and a shotgun as well.
I would take a read through here for CAS info: http://www.curtrich.com/GettingStarted01.html

Lead bullets is all I shoot in my 8 Vaquqros. They will not hurt a Vaquaro in any way.
Who ever told you that was nuts.
Shoot it and enjoy.

Ok, you have a KBNV-45 most likely. It's an original Vaquero, built on the same mainframe as the Blackhawks. It can handle any ammo from the mild cowboy lead loads, to the "Ruger Only" loads you hear about. It was built in 1999.

There are a lot of factors to account for when shooting lead bullets. A rough rule is to use lightly loaded fast burning powders for soft lead bullets and heavy loads of slow burning powders for hard lead bullets to minimize barrel leading problems. Lead bullets can have stability problems for long range shooting. With a new revolver, I always fire at least two hundred rounds of jacketed bullets at high velocity to smooth things out before going to my much preferred lead bullets.

You can search the completed auctions on Gunbroker to get an idea of how much to pay.

Under 400 is a steal, over 500 is a question of how bad you want it and 550 and above is too much.

Just my 2 cents without beating around the bush

You should do some research before taking mine or anyone else's load data at face value.

With that being said,
250gr Lead Round Nose Bullet (or RNFP)
8 gr. Unique

This is my standard load.

I have downloaded my vaqueros to 7.6gr Unique and it is a mild load but not as accurate in my guns as the 8gr. I shot the 8gr load in a Rossi M92 and my Vaqueros.

Good luck with the Cowboy shooting. One of my shooting partners does the cowboy action thing and it's a lot of fun.

Jeff
