Loaded up .44 Special to use for plinking with my new Charter Arms Bulldog with 2.5 inch barrel.
They are the Xtreme copper plated 240 gr. bullet with 6.5 gr. of Unique and was getting speeds in the 685-720 FPS range.
Does sound about right for speed out of a 2.5 inch barrel?

Also tried my 200 gr. Speer Gold Dot bullets with 7.6 Unique and they were in the 820-840 range which is good for that bullet in a short revolver.

I know from personal experience that 7.5 grains of Unique and Elmer's bullet is a stout load in my Charter!

I picked up some Power Pistol yesterday and loaded up a few Speer 200 gr. Gold Dots over
8.1 grs. of it.
Will test those in a few days.
According to Speer data I can safely go up to 8.6 gr. and stay within 15,500 PSI.

Yes , blame the new Forum Format , and the " Related Threads " feature for this necro post , but this is a topic likely to be searched for in the future .

Circa late 1980's R-P Green & Yellow 246 gr RNL , the original . old school yardstick , gives a hair under 700fps from 4 inch Actual .44 Spl ( not Magnum) gun .

So , yes , Mus408's load is solidly within the range of * Standard .44 Special * .

That level seems pipsqueek in a large frame gun , but a useful level for general use in a Bulldog class gun .

200-ish vs 240- ish is personal preference , and a question of which is more accurate in your gun/ hits to POA with fixed sights .

Rimrock Bullets in Montana makes a 185grain SWCHP in lead. Looks like a great slug for the Charter Arms style 44Spls.
