Anyone tried the 410 GNR caliber in the SBH? I read there is a good deal of dissatisfaction with Reeder. Is there an alternate 'smith or superior caliber?

There are quite a few Reeder fans there. I think his price and turn around time can't be beat. Most of the complaints about his work have to do with the engraving I believe.

Think I'd rather do it on a .41 to at least reuse the barrel. Is the .410 a five-shot and the .41GNR a rechambered six shot?

The 410 GNR is a 5 shot on a new cylinder. The ammunition is easily made from 454 cases by necking them to 41 caliber. The Reeder guns are built the way YOU want them, so if you dont care for all the engraving you can get it that way. I shoot my sixguns quite alot, when it aint blazing hot out anyway, and I have owned several Reeder sixguns and 5 shots and they have all been good shooters. More, Reeder will back up his sixguns with a lifetime warranty.
Shooting the 410 GNR is literally a blast! Recoil is only slightly more or on par with a 44 magnum. The ballistics are amazing.

Heres another Reeder, this one is a 41 GNR, it IS engraved with an octagon barrel and real ivory and is a BEAUTY!

Been buying Reeder guns for years. Great shooters and a great man to do business with :) Call the man tell him what your looking for, engraving, no engraving it's that easy! Fermin your guns are beauties!!!!

I was going to order the 429 GNR on my 44 Mag, Reeder informed me the barrel was going to be replaced anyway. So........I thought why not go for the smaller caliber.

Gathering info is good but take the time go to Reeder's board and hang out... Read the posts and even post a little yourself...
FWIW I have never known a good gunsmith who didn't have strong ideas about what should and should not be done.. IMHO this is not a bad thing... The ones to worry about are those who will do whatever you want so long as you pay...

FWIW, I will probably be contacting Reeder to build a 5 shot 480 on an OM Super one day. I have heard no complaints whatsoever about his quality and his price and turn around can't be beat. My only dislike was some of the engraving and the caliber markings, but it seems you can have em without that. I had read somewhere that he wouldn't do them without all the engraving, but I believe he will do them to your liking now. Lot of info on his site. I think I may join and do a bit of research and maybe even ask a question or 3.
