.44 Redhawk grip issues

I recently purchased a used model and after putting 50 rounds through it, the alignment of the wooden grips shifted inward from the bottom. After taking the grips off and then reattaching them for a tighter fit I have got myself into problem. I've inserted the screw into the grip but after a certain distance it would not move anymore. When trying to unscrew it, the metal cylinder inside the grip is moving with the screw and now it's stuck. I'm starting to think I inserted the screw into the wrong grip but I distinctly remember separating the two and putting the screw with the one grip it was retracted from. Any ideas on how to retrieve this screw without sacrificing the grip?

In the future I plan on getting new grips but for now I wanted to get used to getting comfortable with it before I make that step.

Using a brass punch, knock the grip screw escutcheon/ferrule out of the grip, towards the outside.....

Get a grip on it with some padded pliers and unscrew the screw. New parts are cheap.

JMHO, and this technique would work on a Ruger S.A. but I have ZERO knowledge of the D.A. revolvers.
