I went to the range with my new to me Ruger 99/44 Deerfield. Last time at the range I had some jamming issues. Considering the possibilities, I cleaned it well, and went to the range with a range of ammo, I'll list them below. It Still jammed. First magazine of four was Factory- Winchester .44 Mag 240gr JSP, Next Factory was, Remington .44 Mag UMC 180 gr. JSP, Next, Factory Hornady .44 Mag 200 gr. XTP, Next Factory, Winchester Black Talon 250 gr. SXT.
Hand Loads, .44 Mag. New Starline brass, IMR 23 gr. and Hornady 240 gr XTP, also same hand load with 24 gr. IMR.
Each magazine of four, one of the cartridges jammed. Each magazine was loaded with a different load, listed above.
I lobe the gun, when it cycles properly. Each jam is with the previous round ejected, the next round jam is with the next round stuck at the barrel throat. I hope that makes sense, and I hope someone can help me. Help!!!

The magazine might be the problem. If the fired shell is being ejected clear and the next one is jamming in the throat the gun is probably ok. Take the magazine and press down on the cartridges then let go. The next cartridge should pop up and be angled to be pushed into the chamber. Clean the magazine and lightly lube. I used a spray silicone lube. Then adjust the tension with an allen wrench in the nut on the end of the magazine until the cartridges pop up easily. Don't take the magazine apart, it is bad to put back together.

Your ammo sounds good. Of the ones you listed I only ever tried the Winchester white box 240gr soft point and I never had problems with the cycling of the action. My favorite handload is a max charge of 24.0gr of H-110 and a 240gr XTP or other jacketed 240gr bullet.

Pick up a couple more magazines while they are still available. :D

Other possibilities might be the gas port, the feed ramp, springs or buffer.

Uhh.. Yeah, what "other Jimbo" said.. :) I had the same problem years ago with the one I had, but I DID take the magazine apart. (And Jimbo357 is NOT kidding!) it's a real trick to put it back.. I cleaned and lubed it with some "Teflon" based lube, similar to "Break-Free" or something like that. It worked great after that. My ammo was usually Remington 240gr JSP, and they would deposit a little lead on the ramp that I scrubbed really well a few times. It's a fantastic little rifle, enjoy it. Wish I still had mine...

Gentleman, I have a magazine that I took apart, and put back together, with some difficulty. I thought that might be the problem so I ordered two new ones, I only used the new ones at this trip to the range. Something you said, "cleaning the ramp", I thought I cleaned it good, but maybe I didn't clean the ramp well enough. I haven't cleaned the gun since I went to the range yesterday, so I'll take a good look. The COL on my reloads were: 1.607 - 1.604 - 1.600 respectively. The factory was somewhat shorter, but that didn't seem to matter. Thank you very much for your input, I appreciate it.

Gentleman, After cleaning I thought I would try to cycle a clip of ammo, sure enough, it jammed. I took a bunch of pictures, then called Ruger, they gave me a repair number and said send it in to them, the NH address, that makes sense to me...........
I'll give an update........

Cycling the gun by hand is a good way to slow things down and see what is happening with the feeding. If using loaded ammo be sure to obey all safety rules like pointing the gun in a safe direction and having the ammo land on something soft. If you have to pay for shipping I think the USPS is the cheapest. :o
