Anyone own a .41 mag, and if so, how difficult is it to find ammo for it. Found a 4 5/8 today for less than $500.00. Is that a good price?

How much less than $500.00? I'd look more around $400.00 - $425.00 for a nice specimen. That's just my opinion though.
Ammo is not very common in stores and when found can be expensive.
It is however an absolute dream to reload for (essentially a must if you want to shoot it in any quantity) and I love the caliber. Quite possibly my favorite.

I don't know prices on single actions whether new model or old models. There's half a dozen stores here that sell ammo and ONE has .41 Mag. Don't remember the brand but is was jacketed hollow points, $26.95 for 20 rounds. A buddy reloads for me and if not for that ..... don't think I could afford to shoot .41 Mag.

Just wanted to add that my 41 mag is a 4 5/8" BH. Talk about a nice woods packin' pistol! That aluminum frame really adds to it's handiness.
Give it a +1 for what Slim had to say. It is my favorite caliber. I would have to say ammo won't be the easiest to find in my area either. I reload so shot mine often. The price is a bit steep and would try to talk them down. I believe a new one runs a little over $500.

The 41 mag is my sentimental favorite caliber. I now own four of them. Ammo can be found, but is not plentiful. It is expensive, but so is 44 mag. In fact, in our area, factory 44 mag ammo costs just a little more than 41 does with the same type bullets. I also would try to get the gun for a little cheaper, but you won't be disappointed if you get it. It's a great caliber.

Ahhhh, 41 mag!!! Love that caliber above all others. I just picked up a new model blackhawk with a 6.5 barrel for $350. I also have had a super bhk SS hunter for a while. They are getting rather hard to find, around here anyway. Ammo is expensive and hard to find. At about $28 for a box of 20 it was painful to shoot. I figure it is now costing me $.52 per to reload. Brass and cast bullets are a priority at gun shows these days. Can't go wrong with it but $500 seems a bit steep. You won't be disappointed with the caliber. It puts mighty big holes in stuff.

I own 3-4 of them, and they are very nice guns. All mine are OM's and I wouldn't take $500 for any of them. I reload so cost of ammo isn't an issue. Good caliber & fun to shoot!

You can buy them new (Boise, Idaho) for around $425-435.
Reloading is advantageous but not a necessity. But all the larger calibers (41, 44S 44M, 45) are like that.

Anyone shooting anything larger than a 22lr is going to pay alot for factory ammo. And it isn't getting cheaper...
Spend yer next $400 of gun money on a Dillon 550. Start showing your shooter's intelligence, and shoot more for the same costs. A bunch more.

If you are interested you can check with a local FFL in the San Diego area....he has a "new in box" old model with all the original items including the box...I've not seen it in person....I don' t know if I can post his web site address or if that isn't allowed so you can p/m me if you want details and I'll get you his web site addresss...he has pictures, etc...as I said, he claims new and never fired...and it's an old model 3 screw.

I have a S&W model 57 and love it.
Ammo is not hard to find online. About the only thing I do differently is that when I find ammo the gun likes, I buy quite a bit of it.
I'm sure reloading would be good, but I never seem to get around to it.
