I have a chance at getting a NM Blackhawk in 41 mag for 350. The gun is new in the box. Dealer has had it sitting on the shelf since 2012. I have never owned a 41 mag I know that ammo is hard to find. What is the best use for that caliber? I do not need another safe queen.

Best use? What do you need/want it for?

My wife has hers for woods carry in grizzly country (I load hot hard cast loads for her). Loaded with light 180 gr: It's a pussycat but a heck of a defense load.

I used one while I was in grad school earning my pay as a guide on wild hogs in Cali. Preferred it over my SBH=seemed to penetrate better than what was available in 44 mag at the time.

My brother and I traded a Model 58 and an OM Blackhawk back and forth for 20 years until I broke down and bought a "new" (to me) OM Blackhawk.

I've had one since 1999. Love it. Decent caliber for deer, most hogs, etc. There's actually quite a wide selection of ammo, but it ain't cheap. Runs around $1/round or more. I use Underwood 210gr XTP. https://www.underwoodammo.com/41-remington-magnum/

Buffalo bore also carries .41mag and Georgia Arms sometimes has reloads for cowboy fun.

Btw $350 is an excellent price. I paid nearly that for mine new, and MSRP on them now is $625, but they can be had for $550 or so off the shelf.

The .41 magnum is , IMHO , one of the finest cartridges ever chambered in a single action revolver. It will handle any animal found in North America with proper loads and bullet placement. It is best considered a hand loading proposition if a verity of ammo is wanted. I own 4 at this time and have found that all just love a 210-215 gr.
Hard cast bullet over 8-8.5 gr. Unique for a mid range load. They can be ran
"mild to wild" and everything in between with great accuracy and penetration.
You might say I like the .41 !!

The 41M is a great cartridge, if you load your own. Factory ammo isn't cheap and not always easy to find.
Never the less, NIB for $350 is a good deal and would be hard to walk away from.

No way I'd pass that up. .41 is my "big" round now that I gave up all the bigger ones. Works for anything I'll ever need a gun for.

The "clincher" here for me is the price. Like you, I don't need another safe queen. But, this might be a sound investment especially if it has the Rosewood grips. Don't know if they had started on plastic panels back in 2012? JMTC.

Not sure, but I think they switched from rosewood around 2006. My 1999 has the rosewood, but I put Hogue on it and carved them down to fit my hand, since the factory grips are just too small for me. Still have the factory grips also.

I'd buy it. A 41 magnum is on my to-do list. And I would love, love, love to find any Blackhawk for 350 around here. Most are in the 400's or more...

you'll kick yourself if you don't...I have a bunch, it was my first magnum caliber. I have 3 and my Redhawk is my most accurate revolver
