Well I have danced around this caliber for years now but tomorrow I will have a 4 5/8" blued
Blackhawk. I get a couple couple boxes of shells with it. I guess I'll have to get a set of dies and a mould if I can find them. I don't know anything about this caliber can anyone give me any pointers on this caliber?I'll try to post pics later.

I had one in my early 20's. It was scoped with a Leupold 2x with a b square mount. I killed several deer and one hog with it before someone talked me out of it. The 41 mag is a very accurate round with plenty of power for Florida wildlife. I was not too fond of the b square mount though. Congrats on yours!!

I own a "few" of them.
You will find that to truly get the best out of them, you have to reload. Start the hunt for supplies,, & don't give up, they are out there.
A great caliber & quite capable of taking big game. I saw a 700 lb+ cow elk dropped from over 75 yds with one shot. DRT.
You are gonna enjoy it.

It is more like a 44 magnum than it is like a 357. If you handload, it can do just about anything. The number of bullet types for it is limited. Marlin used to make a 41 magnum lever-action field gun but they are hard to find now and priced oos these days. Enjoy the most powerful Blackhawk. :D

Greetings,

Hearty congrats on your new 4 5/8" .41 Blackhawk!! I love the .41 Mag, and as a matter of fact, it's my most favorite caliber in handguns!! I have both 4 5/8" and 6 1/2" Blackhawks, and both are very accurate, and a joy to shoot. I wished for years that Ruger would offer a Stainless Blackhawk, but ended up with a SS .41 Bisley, instead, and VERY happy with it!! Looks good, and even feels better than my BH pistols! The .41 will really do just about anything that you want to do with a handgun, if you do your part. Reloading is a must, but I do like the Remington 210 gr. JSP, which is a fairly powerful, and very accurate offering in .41. I also like the WW 175 gr. Silvertip. But, when you begin to reload, after carefully working up and testing your loads, you will see what the .41 can really do!! Good luck with your new pistol, and welcome to the .41 Club!! Take care, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc

Congratulations on getting one of the best heavy handgun calibers available! I have a 6-1/2" Blackhawk and a 5-1/2" Redhawk in 41 magnum caliber and it is my favorite caliber for woods carry. Like others have mentioned, handloading is your best option for ammunition. You can load plated bullets for plinking around 1000 - 1200 fps (I like 210 grain Berry Bullets with Unique) , all the way up to hard cast 265 grain (Cast Performance with 'Lil Gun or W296) around 1300 - 1400 fps for serious work. I've never had a problem with max loads in either gun - they are both built to take a lot of punishment. I'm not suggesting max loads to start with; you should still start low and work up. Enjoy and have fun....

I really enjoy shooting and reloading the .41mag. Currently own a 6.5" Bhk and 7.5 super Bhk hunter. The super will be in the woods with me this deer season. I scoped it with a luepold 2x and have been shooting it alot lately. The goal is to be proficient out to 75 yds with it. Can't see much further thru the woods here if that far. Working up a hunting load for it (Hornady 210gr XTP over W296) was very enjoyable. Amazing to see the groups tighten up. Enjoy the gun. I do.

I have a 41 Bisley in 41 and it has always been a favorite. I shot it last week at a 2' x 2' plate at a 100 yds using 215 Mo Bullet Keith bullets and Herco powder with std primers.. It is a good accurate load. I had some Herco that had a $16 price on it and remembered that I used to load some 41 with it, well it worked out fine. I usually shoot some plate or gong at 100 yds every time I go to the range, using 41,44 or 45, it is highly enjoyable and I would encourage anyone to try it. Other people at the range are usually amazed that a revolver can consistently ring the gong at a 100 yds, some fun for an old man.

Byron, I had a love affair with the .44 magnum for many years but was always intrigued with the .41 magnum. I finally bought an old model short barreled one on this forum and now have a new love in my life.

As you can see, I installed a super blackhawk hammer which I much prefer to the standard issue ones.

My plinking load matches a full bore .357 magnum. My, large for caliber, 265 grain lead bullet load challenges the .44 magnum and is a pleasant shove in recoil rather than the sharp rap of a .44. Reloading is a must.

John

I didn't get to pick it up today ,ended up working. I will have to swing by tomorrow and pick it up after work. It seems the 41 has a good following here.

Yehaw picked it up, got a box of Winchester 175gr H.P. & a box of federal 210gr hp. Time to go try it out.

Yes what Doc said........ :D :D :D

Congratulations. How does it shoot? How expensive was that commercial ammo? I recently bought a Blackhawk Flat Top .41, which I like a lot. Reloading is the only way to go with these unless you are rich.

I found .41 REM MAG bullets at Rock Rim, Lead Head, and Meister. In currently available inventory, Meister and Rock Rim have a 215 grain SWC, and so does Lead Head -- which also has a 230 grain Keith bullet that seems as close to the real Keith design (flat base, large meplat, three driving bands, deep grease groove) as you can get.

I have not been able to find any jacketed bullets -- although they exist on the product lists, it appears none are in stock right now. I want to load up 50 or so for "self defense" rounds, and will do so with some 200 grain Speer Gold Dots (I think that is the size they offer) when they reappear on the market.

I've always stayed away from the .44 Mag (I have two .44 Specials) because I am not crazy about recoil. I think the .41 has somewhat less recoil, although it all depends on the load. I have experimented only with Unique, and am loading anywhere from 6.0 grains to 8.0 grains, and enjoying the mild recoil and general accuracy.

Well folks it shot great. The 210gr hollow point shot good but the 175gr silvertip hollow point shot incredible. I will say recoil was more than I thought it would be, not bad though. The ammo cost me $25 a box. I got a deal on it I think. I'll have some labor in it, guns & ammo, but no cash. I do a lot of work on his rental houses. I was hoping to post pics but I cant at present time unless someone can take a text from me.
