my LGS has in a used but not abused 4 5/8 .41 mag blackhawk. blue. $400 . please remember this is PRK... fair price ? i prefer the 4 5/8 balance to any other length.

I see that the price your found is about normal for a used Blackhawk. I have seen some cheaper and some a little more, so..if you are so inclined, get it. .41 mag is a great round, fun to shoot and is super for reloading. Just for your info, you can load .41 mag hot loads that have a flatter trajectory than .44 and there fore quite accurate. Get the gun and enjoy!!

But the comments on reloading are important. 41 ammo choices limited and expensive. It seems better now than in years past.

yogiboobooranger is right about being great for reloading. You can do slow cowboy loads up to really fast hunting loads.

Enjoy it.

1+ to what Contender said. I too like the 41 with the short barrel. I had John Gallagher convert one to a Bisley and it's one of my best shooting and favorite Rugers.

Like the comments above though, reloading is a must.

Assuming that with that price it is a NM and sounds like it is EXACTLY like mine. Have not purchased factory ammo in years.

I reload mild, hot and in between. Lead and jacketed.
Really like the Hornady XTP bullet.

I have a Marlin 1894 to match it but the Marlin prefers jacketed bullets over lead.

The Ruger doesn't care nor does my Contender barrel or my Smith 657.
I find the .41 easy to find accurate loads for.

I purchased a NM 41 Blackhawk last year in 6 1/2 barrel. I paid $410 NIB but the only problem was the new internal lock. As far as the 41 goes, I like it far more than any other. The only problem as has been said above is ammo and if you don't reload you're going to spend some bucks and do a lot of lookin'. The 41 is flatter shooting with very similar balistics as a 44 down range. You might check into the present price of a new one before going $410 for a used one.
