The (Navy) M9 slide that actually broke and departed the frame that I know of was using rounds intended for a carbine/SMG (MP5). Even with standard M882 a lot of them were developing cracks on the lugs and the breech face during deployment work ups. Beretta supplied slides with different material for the testing. When filling the contract slides were made differently/faster. Even today, if you compare a M9 and 92FS side by side there are differences. Different finish, plastic recoil rod, etc. There's a reason NSW went with the SIG226 over the M9. When I was assigned at Station Weaps Range Armory Div in the late 80's our AOC showed up one day with a name plague for his desk. It had a M9 slide cut in half, with a 45ACP round between them. It's a mystery where he got it...no way it was an actual broken slide from firing as it was too clean and exactly in the middle. Not to mention somebody would be missing a M9 slide from inventory. It was meant to be humorous. It did strike up a lot of conversation as not many were happy about the 1911 being phased out.
As for deer being the same as humans regarding terminal ballistics....ummm. No. Research it yourself as to why. Yes deer/animals can run great distances when wounded. Humans mostly don't die right away either when shot, like in movies/TV. In "A" school and again in SAMI school they showed us a film of what bullets do to a body. One part that I will never forget. VC prisoner shot in the head with a 308, 1/4 of his head missing. He was smoking a cigarette being interrogated.
