4.2 SP101...Potential Problem?

Hello all, picked up my new Ruger SP101 4.2" model with the FO front sight.

My initial impression of the gun design.....awesome size, great weight, excellent balance, wonderful sight picture, beautiful gun.

However, as I began to do my initial cleaning service to the gun I noticed something. When I open the cylinder, the side of the cylinder contacts the frame. If the cylinder is rotated while open, it barely rubs against the side of the gun.

Is this normal? Thanks for the input!

I think it is normal. If you point the muzzle to the ground and spin it does it still touch? I like you name by the way.

Yep, the cylinder on the SP is not locked onto the shaft. If it wasn't for that nub on the frame the cylinder would slide off when the crane was open. The other Ruger double action cylinders are locked onto the shaft. Not sure about the LCP. 8) 8)

I can't make the outside wall of the cylinder on mine touch the frame.
The REAR does, where it's supposed to.
Is that what you mean?

When I went to pick up my super redhawk a couple years ago the first one they showed me did the same thing, but i had them bring another out and that one didn't.. Not sure why some do and some don't... Thats just my experience with that issue.. Personally I'm picky and prefer one that doesn't rub

Thanks guys, on this gun the actual side of the cylinder will rub against the side of the frame towards the back of the cylinder. This only happens when the cylinder is open of course. When I point the gun down it does not do this.

I am finally on vacation until the new year and hope to get some trigger time in with it. Here are a few more pictures. I am really excited about this pistol.

Yep, like Jimbo said - if it's a'rubbin' on the nubbin' that's the way it's supposed to work...it keeps the cylinder from falling off on the floor. S&W has a nubbin' too.
