I have not tried the ammo. All I shoot in my 358s is that bullet though. It is very accurate and is a great deer bullet. It has taken a long time but it looks like the 358 is starting to get the respect it deserves. There is also a several different premium loads being offered by double tap. Expensive but at least you don't have to be a handloader to get the most out of this fine cartridge anymore.

Nosler should have their 200 grain Accubond for the 358 out in a month or two. This should prove to be just awesome in the 358.

I wish someone would do a 180. Standard lead core not a Barnes. Barnes 180 is as long as 200 to 225. A 180 lead core would really open up powder space. Would like to see a 180 grain Nosler ballistic tip. Would give you a excellent longer range deer bullet. Would shoot nearly as flat as a 308 and deliver a lot more punch. The 358 could be so much more if bullet and ammo companies would get behind it.

Hey 7-08 have you tried the speer 180gr bullet?Plenty of room for powder with that. Also i am using Ramshot Tac in mine and dont have compressed load problem with mine.I even loaded barnes 200gr tipped.

I have shoots fairly well. But I am not too sure as to how it might perform on game. It was designed for 35 Remington velocities and the flat point is not very well suited to a long range bullet. I have loaded the Barnes. They will work fine. I am not worried about compressed loads. Just would like something to get stepping a bit faster hence wanting more powder capacity. A conventional 180 grain bullet should be able to get into the 2700 fps range maybe even 2800. Nothing wrong with 2500 ish on the top end with 200 grainers. But that extra 200 fps and flatter shooting bullet would really turn the 358 into a do all cartridge. Do you really need a 200 grain Barnes for deer size game?

I agree with you that a 180gr would be good.Any additional bullets for the 35's would be helpful.With tac i am getting 2700fps out of my hawkeye with 200 gr barnes.Havent pushed the speers yet but i might just for fun.I am taking the rifle this fall for a spot and stalk black bear hunt and just cant decide which bullet to use.The barnes shoot good but i will try the 200gr accubond when it comes out.Guess thats half the fun of shooting.

Interesting. Might have to try some TAC. Been putting off buying powder as I have a ton already.I forget what I am using off hand 43 something I think. I load for so many I cannot keep it straight. Don't know how much extra FPS I will get I am running BLRs with 20" tubes. Something else to play with.

Heck, why mess with a 180 gr. bullet in the .358? Why not a 150 gr. bullet. :shock: Think I'm kidding? I have a few 150 gr. spitzer .35 caliber bullets that I'm thinking are Remington's made for the .350 Rem. Mag. With the lousy BC and SD they're probably only gonna be good for blowing up coyotes or some such. :lol: I've had them for quite a few years. Picked them up at a gun show n the cheap and just never did get around to loading and shooting any. I'm not even sure where they are out in my shed. :(
I've been ignorig the .358 lately as I've been playing with the .35 Whelen. I've been invited to a pig hunt on a local ranch and I'm thinking of loading up some 200 gr. Hornadys for one of the .358s and using it for the little piggies. 8)
The more I play with the .35 caliber rifles the more I like them.

I think the 180 would be about as light as we could go and still have a decent BC and SD. The 35s are great cartridges that don't get the respect they deserve. I got 3 358s 4 350 mags and 1 35 Whelen.
