357 Maximum

I use 22 grains of H 110 and 158 grain XTP's and I get some subtle spitting in my face everytime I shoot. It appears timing might be off but hard for me to believe becaue it is so accurate. Any suggestions regarding different reloads. Are mine too hot? I also have several hundred of the old remington 150 grain spire bullets for the 350 which I use for hunting; they too spit.

My suggestion would be to not use ball powder in that revolver. A couple of suggestions would be IMR 4227 or SR 4759. I am sure there are other non ball powders out there that will do but these are the ones I have used successfully. I would also think seriously about changing to a heavier slug, maybe even the 180 XTP which is deadly in the Max. My 2c worth.

Here is a link to some good loads for the maxi. Yes, 4227 and the 180 grain is the best I have found so far.

One more thing Charlie, a good crimp is essential. Most likely what is hitting your face is unburned powder so the tighter the bullet is seated the better. If this is a used revolver there is always the possibility that somebody has already sandblasted the forcing cone enough to make shooting difficult at best. Good luck

Chief, It is a United Arms Seville which I have owned for years. When I first bought it (New) it did not spit but I do not remembr the powder I was using...I have not shot it for years becasue of the spitting...took it out again and was amazed at how accurate it is a 100 and 200 yards with iron sights. Thought I could live with the spitting if I had to but would rather not..so I will try heavier bullets and stay away from ball powder.

Choef I forgot to mention my Ruger Maximums using the same powder do not spit....?

The Seville revolvers I remember were well made so I would hope yours is OK. If you have a feeler gauge you might check the barrel/cylinder gap. Should be no more than .006". The other problem I have seen on other guns is if they forgot to cut the bevel into the cylinder end of the barrel. Hopefully the load change will eliminate all the spitting. Chief aka Maxx Load

Chief, I tried 200 grain 358 bullets I had on hand and 22 grains of 4227 and
it is the sweetest load...no spray back, very accurate and no pressure
signs. Thanks for your help.
