I wonder what bullet/mold that would have been?
Lyman doesn't offer a 180GC in a pistol mold these days. They still make the 358315, a 35 cal rifle bullet with GC and nominally 204 grains. A fella on Gunbroker sells those.
When I started IHMSA with a Python, there was nothing heavier in jacketed bullets than the Hornady 160 and maybe a Sierra 170. I cast the above Lyman from pure linotype at 185 grains and loaded it in 38 spl cases so it would fit in the Python cylinder. A bit of a Rube Goldberg, but I shot 2-3" groups on the pig in practice and won matches with it.
When the Supermag came out, I, too, switched to a DW. But, again, I didn't like the choices in conventional pistol bullets, so I stayed with the cast rifle bullet awhile. Then Hornady came out with the 180SSP.....a jacketed spire point intended for "Single Shot Pistols." I used it with great satisfaction but, again, I had to trim case severely to use the crimp groove and still fit in the revolver cylinder. When the game essentially ended in NY, I used that same "short Maxi" load in a SBH to take a few whitetail.
